Best place to get a 2011+ replacement key with Remote start?
I bought a use 2011 ecoboost with 20,000 miles on it last week but it only came with one key. The dealership told me they would sell me a key at "cost" of $180... seems steep to me? Has anyone found a cheaper place to buy a replacement key for a 2011+ F150 with remote start?
BTW sorry if this is the wrong section

It is not the key that costs, but programming it to the HEC without a 2nd key ( shop time ).
Dealership should have sold it with 2 keys, they are just gouging you now.
- thing is, they are going to short cut, and just add the "3rd" key not erase the HEC and start with the 2 keys you have.
Find a locksmith that can clone the RFID tag in the key you have, and have 2 of them made.
- You will not be able to add in another unique RFID tag key, but you will be able to start your truck if you lose the one you got with the truck.
- You will also not be able to use the keys for unique MyKey settings if you go that route either.
Most locksmiths these days can do this, take a call around, it should be about 1/3rd the cost ( give or take ) to make a duplicate of the key you have.
Also, next time you are at that dealer, keep a hand on your wallet, they sound like professional pickpockets.

It is not in the EVTM in sections 20 ( starting ), 24 ( engine ) or 117 ( remote entry ) in the 2012 version.
Not in the 2010 EVTM either ( different system, SJB [2009-2010] vs BCM [2011+] ).
Doubt it is from the factory if the service manual does not have a section on it.
Do you mean it was on the truck when you picked it up at the dealer ?

Got me, it is not part of the service manual or electrical diagrams from the factory.
Does Ford do an aftermarket install line now ( for the Ford branded items ) ?
- A few car mfgrs do this, where the vehicle is built as designed, and the items are added after the fact in a different building, and then sent to the dealer.
