Blinkers No Workee

Hello All,
2004 F-150 Heritage
4.6 Liter
113,000 miles

Today, my Blinkers stopped working...sometimes. Sometimes they work, and most of the time they don't. Also, the emergency flasher only works on the right side. The bulbs are good, and I dont believe its the fuse; if the fuse were bad, it seems they would not work at all.
Is there a flaher module or something like that, that may be going out?
Thanks for the help
Charles

PS. This will be my first post, Hello to all!

Fuses are good. After reading similar issues, my truck probably has a problem with the factory wiring harness being too short and the wires work themselves (overtime) out of the connector when the steering wheel is roatated to the down position. I tested this idea with the steering wheel in the full up position; the flashers and emergeny lights work correctly.
Does anybody have directions to take the steering column covers off, so I can take a look at the wiring?
Thanks for the help
Charles

Well, the panels don't "just pop off". I have found 3 phillips screws which hold the two covers on, however, the key switch does not allow for the covers to come off. How do I get the key switch to come out?
Thanks

Make sure you disconnect the battery negative cable BEFORE removing the cylinder.
