third break light

ok when ever i go fishing i use the third break light to tie rods up and load up the truck. but my truck only has a roller switch that turns on all the cab lights and the third break light. is there a way to run just a toggle switch to turn on just the third break light im sick of bugs and all that flying in my cab when i leave my door open or windows open and tie leaders on in the bed of the truck.

The easy route is to pull the door trim down, and pull the headliner down, to get access to the cargo lamps on the CHMSL.

This is the Black w/ Light Blue stripe wire.

The easy route is up the driver's side A pillar, over the door to the back of the truck.

All you need is some 16 AWG wire for this.

The where to connect to is up to you. Usually I would say to use the Brown wire behind the main headlamp switch, this is the parking lamps. This means you would have to at least have your parking lamps on to make it work.

the other option is to use an add-a-fuse if you want it hot in run position ( like the radio slot ) or hot all the time ( which could lead to a dead battery ).

Few threads on the topic from a search of the term cargo light
