Cargo light switch?

Has anyone successfully installed a switch to override the cargo lamp coming on when you open the doors and/or turn on the dome lamp? I tried a search and most results were for the prev gen F Series. I am just wondering if there's a wire anywhere around the dash that I could tap into instead of running one all the way up into the headliner. I find it easier to reach forward at night to activate the dome light instead of going for the map lights, and people behind me usually get pretty pi**ed off. Thanks for any input on this.

Sounds almost like you'd like a "switch activated" bed light, right?

Shouldn't be TOO hard. You'd need the wiring diagram and divorce it from the interior lights.

I'm just thinking out loud here, to get smarter people than me on to your problem.

Sorry, but when you turn the instrument panel dimmer all the way up ( to turn on the dome lamps ) the front and rear lamps and the CHMSL Cargo lamps are all on the same output at the dash.

You might be able to locate the splice at the front, in the passenger side kick panel, but this will be for both the rear interior dome lamp, as well as the CHMSL Cargo lamp ( both run on the same circuit, same wire ).

You would be looking for a black w/ light blue stripe wire, 5 of them together ( or 3 if you do not have puddle lamps on your mirrors ).

This is not a light blue w/ black stripe wire, that is a different circuit.

Once you locate this splice, you will need to find out which one routes down the passenger side kick panel. The direction of the one to the rear interior lamp, and the CHMSL Cargo lamp run along the sill plate on the passenger side.

Just as easy to run 16 AWG wire to the CHMSL Cargo lamp, and put in a separate switch for the cargo lamp, removing it from the output of the dome lamp switch on the instrument panel dimmer.

Simple run down the passenger side sill plate, and up the passenger side C-pillar to the CHMSL Cargo lamps.

Nice to see you putting that much thought into the driver's behind you, wish more people thought like this.
