fog and high beam

Anybody know how to do the mod so you can have fog lights and high beams on at once? I tried a search with no avail. Thanks for the help.

FedExPilot did a writeup of this project a while back. You might search for posts by him or else check on f150world and see if you can find it there.

I did this mod and it is excellent. It makes your fog lights independent of the other lights so you can have them on when parking lights are on, low beams, or even with high beams. Very nice!

If you can't find anything about it, maybe I can talk you through it. It takes a little knowlege and about 2 hours if you are slow like me. Good luck!

I know I won't be driving with the fog lights and parking lights on by themselves. I find it annoying when others drive around with just the parking lights on. No offense to you or others here that do it, Just my opinion. Plus I have DRL.

Thanks for the help fedex. The only problem is I don't have a 99 or newer with auto. I have a 97 so I'll try to find the directions for a 97/98.

King James,

I did the electrical portion of the mod only, on my 2000 w/o auto lamp. This gave me fogs with brights, but not with parking lamps.
All I had to do was splice the two wires together that were identified in the instructions. I just went by the wire colors. I don't know if the wiring harness is the same for 97/98 or not.

King James,

I know driving with the fogs and parking lights only seems kinda cheesy but it works great if you are in blowing snow at night. In this case, your headlights reflect off the snow right back at you and you can only see 10 feet ahead, but with the fogs only they shine 'under' the snow onto the road and you can continue driving far too fast for conditions. I hear this works in fog also but I don't have any first hand experience with that.

Also, once or twice I have found myself driving with only the fogs and park lights at night by accident - the fogs alone are brighter than the headlights on the crappy 4Runner I used to have!

By the way, I don't have autolamps and I can pull out my fog light switch in park, low, or high beam. I think this is one of my favorite mods because it was cheap and easy and it feels totally factory!

I can't pull the switch out in parking light mode, only when the switch is all the way to the right. I just want to able to have the fogs on with the high beams on.

here ya go. simple and easy. Takes about 20 minutes using a dremel tool, but if you only want fogs on high without fogs on park, will take about 10 minutes. If you only want fogs on bright, remove the switch pod and splice the wire, and reinsert the pod, you won't even have to bother with seperating the switch pod or grinding the ramp.

But I love the look of fogs with parks right at dusk.

Thanks for the help. Got it done. Had to take the dash apart for all kinds of wiring for my gauges anyways. I found 2 white w/black stipes though. put it on one of htem and it worked so either I got the right one first or they both work.

Question Howies effie..Question!!

Howies effie,
I am not after being able to have fogs in any position. I just want the fogs on in both low and highbeam (vs the fogs being off in highbeam) in the stock operational position ("on").
Can you describe the splice required for this?

Thanks a bunch in advance. This is the greatest place for information sharing I have ever seen!! And what a great topic..F-150's!!

Go from the brown wire in the top pic to the black and white wire in the middle pic. Should look like the bottom pic when done.

King,
Seems you know exactly what I need to do! Can you do me a huge favor and repost the pics. I think I can figure it out from the description, but a pic is worth a thousand words!!

Thanks

King James,
Thanks, I saw that post earlier, but thought maybe it was different from 97 to 01. I plan to do the mod this weekend.
Many thanks for all the help!!
