Cool Fog Lights in "auto" or with parking lights

There's a great thread on the Lightning FAQ.
https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/002303.html

Here are some pics to help on the mod in a supercrew. I like being able to use the fogs with the parking lights (or in auto). See thread above for real detail. Works like a charm but there is potential to break the control box as you cut out the plastic.

Remove Lighting control panel. This baby doesn't want to come out -- be careful. Two clips - - one top right the other to the left.

Disconnect cables from back

Cut off "heat tabs" holding the face plate onto the control box. Or, you can try to make the mod without pulling the faceplate off - - see the Lightning thread.

Lift the rotary part of the switch - - try using a screw driver to push up the rotary portion (as shown in the picture)

Detail of the "arm" and "ramp" (see thread for description)

File and/ or cut out another "ramp"

Re-attach the cover plate with epoxy cement or similar adhesive and reinstall control box and splice #2 (white/ black) and #12 (brown) wires together

Operation: Parking lights selected and **** pulled out (note amber fog light illuminated)

Auto selected with **** pulled out

Thumbs up

FedexPilot,
Thanks for the great how to manual You are composing for me. I printed the "Expy Console and Sub" and saved it to reflect as I do not have my truck yet but I am completing these mods in my head (until Ford delivers my truck...Maybe by Christmas).
There is one mod or add on that you might also want for the lights. It allows your Low beam to remain on when the High beams are activated (much like when you pull the stalk back to "flash to pass"). In the stock mode the High beams come on and the Low beams and Fog lights are deactivated leaving only a High beam light pattern in the distance and a grey dimmly lit area infront of the vehicle.
With this addition ALL the lights stay on giving a much more vibrant light pattern. You can make it yourself or buy it from Summit Racing Equipment 1-800-230-3030 Part # SUM-G6219 $14.99 + $6.95 Handling..Shipping is free so if order more than one unit (2 cars in the family or friends) it's cheaper per unit. I ordered 3...2 for me one for a friend. Works great on my wifes 97 Maxima SE and My 97 Mountaineer (which will be removed and installed in my Screw)

2001 S-Crew Lariat(Ordered 7-28-00) due late Sept or Oct., 4x4, 5.4, Capt. Chairs, CD changer, Lmt. Slip, Tow Pack, Skid Plates, Slider, Steps, Moonroof, Cargo Cage, Oxford White over Graphite

Future Mods. ARE LSII in silver, Expy Console, Brush guard, Spray on liner.....

Cool

DR7;

I think "lightning_svt" can help you out. He's the expert associated with the thread below.
https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/002303.html

He wrote previously...

"…you know what… I just realized that you could probably get a similar effect to the above without filing anything, just splicing some wires… but this would mean that the fogs would ALWAYS turn on with the autolamps; you wouldn’t have a choice… if anyone wants this solution, send me an e-mail… I’ll also be sure to include this in the HOWTO I’m trying to write…"

Sounds like he's got it figured out ....
his email is on one of his postings in the thread. Best of luck ....

Cool

Finally got the nerve up to cut into the truck. Something about cutting into a new truck you just doesn't feel good. Thanks for all the great "how-to" threads. The light switch mod went off without a hitch. 25 minutes and it was back in place.

Red face

Looks great, but just before anybody else does this. Make sure what the laws in your state says about having both sets of lights on. Here in Holland it is illegal to have running lights and fog lights on at the same time, I have coworkers that actually pull people over and ticket them without warning. I personally don't care, but you better be save than sorry.

I have to agree, FEDEXPILOT you are a tinker'er. I don't know that I'd want you doing modifications on something that runs at 37,000 ft above the ground, but the truck stuff is too Kool. I have a question about the Expy Console. Did you make your own covers to cover the rear radio controls in the rear of the console. I have located one, and they tell me that they HAD controls in the rear, but have been removed and now an open hole exists. My truck is on order, no idea on arrival. I originally ordered a 2WD Lariat. Now I've changed it to a Kings Ranch Edition, however my Salesperson has NO info on the option package. I had to take him what I had found on here. Now thats SAD.
So as of today, I don't know which I have coming. He won't return my calls. Guess I'll take a drive tonight after work. But I can't push em too hard, they are giving it to me at $100.00 over invoice. other Ferd dealers want $1K over VOLUME, VOLUME, VOLUME

I have made some cover plates using 1/8" thick pebble grain plastic sheeting material I purchased from Select Audio. (www.selectproducts.com) This stuff is sweet; it can be bent with heat, can have curves cut into it with a razor knife, and can be colored with vinyl dye. It's also availaible with carbon fibre, woodgrain, etc.

XTRUKY;
I'm in the same boat as you -- have a small opening in the back of the console where the control panel should be. I know some members have put in a finished wood piece (you'll have to do a search to find that thread- - it was quite a while ago). I'm thinking along the lines of a piece of MDF wrapped in matching vinyl attached from the inside of the console - - it shouldn't be that hard - - just need to find some time !! You're right ... I wouldn't want to be flying in anything I had worked on either - - thank God for good aircraft mechanics !!!

OhioCrew:
I mixed up a small batch of epoxy cement. It seems to be a "permanent" attachment now - - don't think I'll be able to take it apart again. I'll update my post (above) to include that info.

Onbelay:
Great idea for covering the hole .... Thanks!!

Cool

2001 - Just follow the thread FEdEx has set up and it should work fine. I uses a litle bit of Zap (cyanurate, not sure of spelling) glue just to tack it back together. It doesn't really need much to hold it together from what I can tell. I'll let you now if this stays in place or not.
