How Remove Rear Taillight Bulb?
How Remove Rear Taillight Bulb?
Greetings all... I have a 2001 F150 SuperCrew and before I break it, can someone more schooled than I remind me how to pop off the Tail Light cover to access and replace my burnt out turn signal light? Thanks I've searched the forum and I don't see this particular question addressed yet. Thanks, ya'll...
I believe that if you lower your tailgate, there should be a couple of screws that screw into the rear of the lense to hold it into place.
I do know that on my "06", there are the 2 screws and then a couple of clips that hold the outer edge toward the fender. The last time I changed a bulb, mine was a real bear to pull backwards and unclip.

IIRC when you pull it out it isn't straight back, you pull it off the corner (on an angle) rather than back or sideways.
Didn't see that in the instructions. And they can be stuck in there pretty good some times.

Step #3
This forum is awesome. Always an answer and always spot on. Getting the lamp harness out was a snap, but I broke the bulb socket getting the bulb out. No matter, was still a cheap DIY job and done in no time. Now to tackle that intermittent odometer issue and replace the center console as the padded part of it has dissentigrated. Thanks all!

!st time I did mine I tried to pull straight back and it wouldn't go. When I pulled on an angle it popped right out. Step #3 says pull it out, I just added the angle part b/c that's what worked for me.

Step #3
carefully pull the lamp assembly from the tailgate pillar to disengage two hidden snap-in retainers
The tailgate pillar is the square part just behind the bolts.
This is the pulling on a slight angle part.
This also releases the target locating pins on the back of the housing.
Tail light bulbs - posted instructions are wrong
while I sincerely appreciate forums and the multitude of areas they satisfy in our lives & our work; THERE needs to be oversight.
There are no readily available "SCREWS" when I drop the tailgate on my 01' SuperCrew- aside from those INSIDE THE quarter panel body that can/could only be reached w an extension and I doubt not be dropped on removal or reinstall.
With that being said, I'll step down off my soap box and wander some more UNTIL I come across the right answer to this issue.

Mind you not all screws have a phillips or flathead top. Some are Allen head and others are hex head.
Having said that, here is a plain as day photo of the two "screws" that hold the driver side tail light in on my 2003 that look just like the ones holding in the passenger side tail light. I circled them in yellow so they would be easier to see. Your 2001 will have them in the same location.
