New Truck - Anyone Notice This?
I just took delivery on a 2001 F-150XLT this afternoon. While the salesman and myself were going over the owners manual packet he pulls out a plasic card with the permanent code to the Keyless Entry System.
The card reads:
This is the permanent code to the "Keyless Entry System." For operating instructions please refer to your Owner's Guide.
The it gives me a 5 digit number.
On the reverse side it gives instructions for enabling autolock by pressing the 3/4 and 7/8 keys.
Now my truck does not have the keypad, should I assume that it is supposed to have it, or am I "keypad ready"?
The salesperson told me that they are equipping all of the new F-150's with autolock codes even if they don't have the feature installed. Further investigation into my old Y2K paperwork turns up the same card with a different code.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm tempted to try ordering a keypad now!

You have everything you need to add the keypad. Check out this link, Keypad Install. It has all the info you need. Lots of board members have done the install. Check http://www.fordpartsonline.com for the cheapest price, somewhere around $80. Good luck, have fun.

Does anyone know if Ford equipped the 97's wit hthe keypad harness. I would love to install those keypads. I do have power locks and always thought that I should of had a keyless entry key fob with my truck (bought it used from a dealer).

KYFordFreak, I too bought my 98'used which included factory electric door locks. When I was installing an aftermarket remote start/unlock which required relays on the door locks I found them allready installed in the door. I assume the previous owner removed the remote prior to selling the truck. With that knowledge I figure it was never equipped with a factory keyfob. I would love to install the keypad entry on my truck. Cannot find the RAP module and wiring harness. Looked in the door and the wires do not exist there either. Have been unsuccessfull at obtaining any information regarding installing from scratch. I would bet that you don't have the RAP module either. Sorry for the bad news. I will keep trying to get info and will post here if I get some. Dennis

AFAK either option is controlled by the same GEM. My vehicle came with a credit card sized card with my Keyless Entry Code and instructions how to work the door keypad which I don't have, and am not supposed to have according to my window sticker.
This tells me that all I have to do is plug in the door handle and all is good to go! The info by you guys just reassures that point even more. Thanks for your help!

Wait a minute guys. I think? you are mixing two different options.
Keyless entry and Keypad entry are two different options.
Keyless entry has the key fob with the button to push unlocking the doors.
Keypad entry is the number pads on the door handle assembly.
You can have both or either one (model year probably matters though).

Thanks for the tip but I know the difference. I just thought since everything including the locks was power that I should have a key fob to go on my keychain. My first thought was that the guy who oened this truck before me never turned them in or the dealer neglected to give them to me, then on second thought I got to thinking and thought maybe the truck didn't some with them. So, can anyone tell me how to check and see if all I need is a replacement key fob from a dealer (programmed to my truck of cousre) or if I would have to go with aftermarket keyless entry.
Second thought was to add keypad also, but I wanted to know if my 97 should be prewired (like a 00 or 01) for it. If not what is needed? Enough for now, sure there will be more later.

its simple to do to check the system for Remote Keyless Entry, I dont have the info here at home but I think '97 and up you cycle the ignition key in the steering column switch on and then off 8 times, do not start the truck just turn the key to the run position and then turn the key to off 8 times kind of fast (think you have 6 seconds to do the 8 cycles) on the 8th cycle to the run position the door locks will lock and then unlock. that means you have Keyless Remote Entry. Now turn the key off and the door locks will cycle again (lock and then unlock). they do it twice, on the 8th turn to run when the door locks first cycle you are now in the program mode, leave the key in the run position and press one keypad (fob) button and then the next keypad press one button, each time you press a FOB the door locks will cycle to lock and then unlock telling you that the system accepted the FOB, then shut the key off and the door locks will cycle one more time telling you that you have exit the program mode. be careful when buying the FOB's, Ford makes like 10 differnt ones, and they are not interchange able, one year they made a gray one and a black one, they both are the same looking and shape and size and the only diffrence is the color and the electronics inside the case. make sure the parts department sells you the right one. By the way some remotes are like $25.00 and others are $50.00 and more.
