Post mod: low beams and high beams at the same time

Has anyone been following the fog-lights-on-when-any-other-lights-are-on-mod thread (https://www.f150online.com/f150board/Forum49/HTML/000552.html)?

In it, Vesjas describes a relay from Summit (part no. SUM-G6219) that will enable the low beams when the high beams are activated.

Has anyone tried this? I would be concerned about heat, since it's really the same bulb (just two different filaments), right? WOuld the plastic lens cover blister? Would the bulb life be shortened?

Thanks

If you're driving with your brights on you're probably on the highway and moving a lot of air over the plastic head light covers, so I wouldn't worry about them so much. What I would worry about is melting your connectors/wires from running so much current through them for a long time.

not really the same thing here but made me think of something. My buddy has a gmc with the sensor on the dash that turns the headlights on when it senses darkness. he put a dash cover on the dash and covered it up, which fooled it into thinking it was always dark. He also put on the dark headlight covers. So, whenever he was driving the lights would be on. Well, the lights were on, the covers held in the heat and melted the clear original headlight covers. Not a nice sight. Just a little story i thought of while reading. In case you were thinking of buying a gmc, dont use a dash cover and headlight covers at same time. yeah right, what am i thinking?

I think that that part in Summit is for GM vehicles which have seperate bulbs for high and low (4 total). You don't want to burn both of the filliments in the same bulb at one time. The thread you were looking at is to be able to turn on the "fog" lights along with the Parking, or the high beams. Not the High and Low at the same time. I actually ground down some of the plastic in the switch that the switch cam rides along so I could pull out the switch for fog lights with only the parking lights on.
