Okay so i did the led swap on my window/door switches well i plugged the door switches up backwards when i was pluggin it into the harness and it got so hot to touch so ran and got my gloves to pull it out well smoke started coming from right side of my window where the passengar seat is and that was the switch i was working on to.I can lock my doors but i cant unlock them on either side i dont know if its the switch or what?

 

What do you mean plugged the door switches up backwards ?

The connectors are keyed so they only go in 1 way, in 1 connector position ( i.e. the connectors are keyed different when there is more than 1 ).

Sounds like something went wrong with the LED swap, and you now have melted wires.

You are going to have to pull the door, and start checking every wire in the door and then work your way under the dash to the other sides of the truck.

 

thanks scully but i got it working now i had a little little piece of solder on the contacts of the switch but everything is working now

 

That's interesting! Sounds like a shorted circuit that didn't blow a fuse. I didn't think anything there was "unprotected".

Heh, was wondering the same thing. You haven't "upped" any fuses, have you?

 

If solder was run across a door lock circuit it is 15 amps. The illumination circuit is only 5 amps. 15 amps in a 5 amp circuit is enough to smoke things.
