Question Want to disconnect door chime

I have a 2001 supercrew and would like to have my door open and listen to the radio without that annoying door chime. It is always off beat with what I'm listening to. Can anyone suggest the easiest way to do this?

This was posted previously here and Dennis suggested tripping the door latch (and remembering to open it before closing the door) while the door is open. I would like to know if the latch trips a switch in the door, can this be disconnected there?

There is a switch on the latch in the door, but if you unhook it, the door dinger won't ding but the interior lights won't light when the door opens. I think if you find the dinger & unhook there, the interior lights won't work either.

Where I first tried tripping the door latch was on my company truck-Y2K "burb" 2500. The same things work on it.

Most of the door chims are somewhere under the dash, locate it and just "unplug" it, have done all mine that way

I have looked under the dash for hours and can't locate the chime or the wire going to it. I tried checking the wires coming from the door itself but there are about thirty of them and I couldnot get to all of them to narrow it to the one. I was hoping someone might be able to give me an idea as to what the chime itself looks like so I know where to point the barrel of my shotgun. That thing drives me nuts trying to listen to the radio with the doors open. Thanks for the info.

Hey B Clark,
Sorry to tell you after you looked for hrs and hrs put, your not going to find a chime under the dash. Its made in the GEM module pritty much the brain box for all intieor controls, no GEM no 4x4, no GEM no radio, no GEM no instrment cluster you get the pic. Ford has had this sence 97. We've tried to disconect the chime many times with no luck, so if you find a way the do it w/o losing any other controls(int. lights etc.) please let me know.

Thumbs up

My dealer disconnected mine by disassembling the ignition and removing the switch contacts. They charged me for .3 hours. Works well!

im the elec. tech at a ford dealership. I take the gem module out, open it up and unsolder the chime speaker from the circuit board. i charge the cust 2 hours labor and make sure they know that it is final, but it works real good.

Jeff, if you de-solder it, why can't you resolder it? Just curious.

Jeff, Do you know if my 98 Lariat has the module needed to convert to keyless entry, via door handle/keypad. I've asked this in another post with no luck. I really miss this option which I had on two Taurus' and found valuable advice here with exception to the answer to this question.
