I was thinking about getting the Xenon bulbs they have 65/55 for $10.99 ,100/55 for $14.99 and 100/80 for $14.99 does anybody know anything about these bulbs.

cobra99
I don't think the 100/55 would require wire upgrade I don't think Ford's wiring is to the limit from factory there is probably a 20 to 30% cushion engineered in the wiring just my .02

I was thinking of the 100/80 for my truck.

In reference to all of the talk about melting wires. The higher wattage not only has the chance to melt the wire but can cause many other problems. The higher wattage is illlegal unless used with a special reflector. The reflectors are designed to not go above 70 watts. When there is a higher wattage more light is put into areas that have a ceiling for the amount of light legal. This means the lights can blind oncoming traffic. This is true even if you try to angle the lights. You will then lose crucial light and still be putting too much light in illegal spots. The higher wattage can also melt the reflector itself. The heat will react over time to damage the reflective material ruining the affectiveness of the optic. The heat can also damage the clear plastic front. There are going to be direct replacements for the 9007 from Sylvania. They are called Cool Blue and should be out by the end of February. From my research there are very few street legal lights, Sylvania fits the category. Anything over the 65/55 watt lights are not street legal and should be labeled as "for off road use only.' If you want to risk a ticket go ahead but it is not worth it to me.

For everyones information:

wattage / voltage = current

so;
80 watts/13 volts = 6 amps of current
100/13 = 8
50/13 = 4

AS you can see... as long as you aren't over the 15 amps that the circuit is rated for, you are OK.

I have the 100/80 watt bulbs from the F150online digital marketplace in my truck, and they look and work great.

NOBLE--

That is what I was concerned about. I wanted just a bit more light...but I think I will just stick with the factory set up so I don't 'upset' our boys in uniform.

Cool

Ok. First of all there are new bulbs out there. Yes the Plasma Bulbs are illegal since they give off a blue light with them. Any blue light is a illegal bulb.

Now there are bulbs on the Market "Max Super White Bulbs" which are street legal. This carry Krypton gas! These are the closest to HID bulbs you can buy. And very white. This also Fulfills white requirement for legal highway driving (c.v.c. #25950)

I currently have these in my Motorcycle and F150 Truck. Also my girlfriends Ford Escort. Anyways these bulbs are very inexpensive. $40.00 for a set. Really worth the price.
Here is a before and after gif.

Can anyone tell me if the fog light bulbs in the 99 are different than the 98. The online store only shows the aftermarket store carrying fog light bulbs that fit the 97-98.

Thanks--Bob

Regarding rewiring the switch...
Even in the case where the circuit may not be sufficient to carry the additional current, you would not want to rewire the switch/circuit.
You should use a relay and run the large guage wire through it. There are 30A relays that are sold in every parts store for ~$4 for this type of thing. They are usually around the foglight kits, strangely enough.
If you use a vampire clip and get the proper connectors for the headlights, you can go back to totally stock when selling the vehicle.

Now my .02: I would like to upgrade my high beams to 100W, but leave the low beams alone. It doesn't appear to be possible with the single 9007 bulb. I think I'm going to get the 100W H3 fixtures from JC Whitney and relay them to my high beams and a ****pit switch. That should be enough to protect me from the night joggers, but JCW sells a 130W H3 bulb for $8 just in case.
