dome light help
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I need some remote help if anyone can help me. When i hit the door unlock on the remote my parking lights flash but the dome light does not come on until i open the door. I have read and researched to only come up empty handed. I know the book says that the dome light will come on but it dont! My truck is an 06 supercrew. I want to put two lights under it but they will do not good if the truck will not light up at night. Thanks

Did the perimeter lighting feature ever work ?
Did you try enabling the perimeter lighting feature ( page 105 in your owners manual ) ?

CREWZER, I deleted your thread in the 2004-2008 section for the reason SSCULLY gave you. And we note that the fuse for the dome light is fine.
I think SSCULLY has pinpointed the root cause of the problem though.

ok first, sorry didn't mean to double post. I had rather do a lift or gear change than electric stuff. I have done the perimeter lighting by disabling it but the dome light still don't work when i unlock the doors with the remote. I would think the fuse is good cause the light comes on when any door is opened. I know our fords will do it, but how? Thanks in advance for any help. Mike
You need to ENABLE perimeter lighting.
sscully, it was enabled before in disabled it. I did it both ways more than once and it didn't work. A guy i work with has a 07 and he's works. I even talked to my local dealership and they tell me my (06) will not come on until the door(s) are open. I fell that is wrong. They tell me Perimeter lighting is only for trucks with outside lights on the steps or mirrows only.???? Thanks for any info you can come up with on this one.
Is it enabled or disabled right now ?
Is this a Ford RKE fob ?
Do you have the keypad on the door handle ?
Did it ever work ?

did it every work..... you mean the keypad or the dome?
I have been outside messing with the lights and did turn on the dome light with the demer swicth and to the light acts like it has a short because it is deam and blinks. now i am wondering if i have a short(but then again it is fine with the doors open).

I MAY just be confusing things, but....
If the dome light is dim and "blinks" when your panel light rheostat is turned to full bright ("clicked on"), then something is amiss in that circuit.
And, I don't think the guy at your dealership knew what he was talking about or, he didn't really understand what you were saying to him. I think the interior lights SHOULD come on when you unlock the truck with your factory key fob. That feature is there to make us all feel safe getting into the truck at night, we get to see the bogyman before he cuts our throat. I don't think you need mirror (puddle) lights to make this happen.
But, my parking lights don't flash when I hit "unlock", my headlights and taillights come ON. Isn't this what happens on your truck?

Jack,
When I hit unlock on my remote, my parking lights flash twice and that is all until I open the door and thats when the dome light comes on. Like I said before, electrical problems drive me nuts because I dont know what I am doing! In my Ford booklet, I have a brochure from Avital, Model 4200 which is the security system on my truck. On page 21, I quote "Domelight Supervision: The domelight will illuminate for 30 seconds each time the system is disarmed using the transmitter. This is useful for seeing inside the vehicle at night prior to entering it."
PS: Thanks again for all your help, but I am confused.

Did the interior lamps ever illuminate when using the Ford RKE fob, and now I have to ask with the alarm fob ( same question from Post #2 )
So you have an after market alarm in addition to the Ford RKE, this is some good info to have before.
How are you disarming the Alarm when using the RKE fob ?
If you use the Alarm unlock, do the dome lamps come on ?
The headlamps turning on is an option for the illuminated exit via the info center. Using my Ford Silver remote start fob the parking lamps flash.

I don't THINK the interior light has every came on with just the remote. So you think i have an aftermarket alarm? It came from ford and was in the truck when bought! I guess i am disarming the alarm with my remote when the doors are unlocked. The alarm unlock? If you are asking about a different remote for the alarm system.. i don't have one. My light flash (parking lights) when i unlock doors- disarm the system just like if i remote start.
CREWZER, what you have is clearly different than what I have. My system is totally OEM and the instructions are printed in my vehicle owners manual. I have nothing installed as an aftermarket alarm. (My truck really is NOT alarmed. It just relies on the PATS to prevent someone from starting it and driving it away.)
In any case, I don't know anything about what you have, so any advice I could give would be worthless. Is there any way to contact Avital? They MUST have some kind of customer support system.

A Ford Alarm system would have a Ford logo on it, and a Ford manual, even though it is a CodeAlarm system.
The Ford factory RKE does not have a remote start option on it, sounds like what you are calling a Ford RKE is not one.
The Ford RKE would look like this :

The Ford Silver Remote Start would look like this ( mine are flat black plastic, not wave pattern ).

I'm going to go with you have an aftermarket alarm system, that is doing something wrong, as The Ford RKE and the Ford Silver Remote start both turn on the dome lamps when you press unlock ( at least my 2006 functions this way with the RKE and Silver Remote start system ).
I have LED lamps on the running boards that are hooked to the interior lamps, so when I press unlock the boards are illuminated ( write up in the Technical Articles section ).
This is what the Ford Remote start ( this is the silver cover, bronze and gold look similar ) owners manuals look like
