Steve, if you even bothered to check the dates and times on the post and the e-mail (which I figured You were smart enough to do), you would see that the "honest question" was sent before the E-mail (which, by the way, was an honest e-mail) Good life back to ya Steve.

Steve, in rechecking my post and e-mail (because this has crossed into 2 forums) my question on the other forum was time dated 7-08-09, 12:34PM, my e-mail is time dated 7-09-09, 8:36AM, AFTER I read your response on the other forum. I definitely e-mailed the day AFTER I asked the question and AFTER I read your response to my post on the other forum. The end.

i've had an optima red top battery for about 6 years now and it still tests strong, i like the gell cell bateries because the 2 battries i've had before this one they failed within a year due to vibrations off roading, something to do with the plates inside colapseing. so the next battery i buy will probably be the same one or maybe a yellow top. but 6 years of hard abuse and being run dead about 50 times and still testing strong sounds like a pretty good battery to me.

Steve and Code - you've BOTH posted good stuff on this forum. Don't degrade the value of your contributions by engaging in a pointless, public argument over nothing. Neither of you has any reason to have to "defend" anything you've said. Why do it?

The topic was batteries, advantages/disadvantages of two designs and symptoms of ones that are failing. Why not stick to that?

- Jack

How exactly are you testing it? What brand of normal battery are you comparing it to? Have you read the warranty on that red-top? I mean the fine print? Any aftermarket electrical devices void it, so if you have a winch, driving lights, MP3 player, radar detector...

there are battery load testers out there, it puts the battery under an extreme load and measures the voltage I really dont care about the fine print, they all have them and they all have limited warrenties, i'm just telling you my story and why I like the battery. and i'm comparing it to a normal Lead acid battery, the optima's are spiral gell cel.

Yeah, I know there are testers - I was asking how YOU were testing yours to make that comparison. Optimas don't contain any 'gel' - they're Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries. Basically a fiberglass sponge. But they use exactly the same lead & acid as conventional batteries.
