Which model tach are you looking at ?

The Autometer ones have a tach adapter that is installed. I think this uses the CPS as the input, but I am drawing a blank at the moment.

This is for the typical 2 1/16" type tachs, the other type are ODB-II installed, and actually read the RPM from the engine ( over the comm network in the truck ).
