I own a F150 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 ´06, I want to know if my truck has a really OEM Alarm or remote access only?, if it has alarm what is the real protection level? it is recommended to install an aftermarket alarm?

I will really appreciate your advises and comments about it.

If it has a factory alarm, it is only a door alarm. Easiest way to test it is to roll down your window, arm the truck and then open the door from the inside. It should set off the horn.

I think most people recommend an after market alarm. I do, my truck has the factory alarm and my truck was still broken into. People just don't care about factory alarms.

Don't know if you are asking about the alarm for the break in, or actual theft of the truck.

If you are asking for insurance reasons, there is a qualified immobilizer installed with PATS. This is starting on page 96 of your owners manual.

If you are asking about tilt, and glass breaking, then no, you do not have an alarm.

 

On my 06 xlt it was just keyless entry, no alarm.

 

Unless something changed between my model year and yours, you DO not have an alarm. Your vehicle is equipped with a "passive anti-theft" device that makes it almost impossible to start without your PATS key, but that's it.

There is NO alarm when I open a locked door in the manner described by mtylerb. In fact, the doors are very easy to break into by inserting a screwdriver between the door handle bezel and the sheet metal on the door. If the door is opened this way, there's no alarm either and anything in your cab is easy to grab.

I installed "JimiJammer" protection plates in all my doors to make forced entry harder. But, I have not put in an alarm yet. In general, my truck doesn't sit out exposed in areas where break-in is too likely.

Huh, maybe there is something after market in mine afterall. I read somewhere on here that it was an option. Oh well. I've installed the Jimmi' Jammers on my Tailgate and Hood. I have the kit for the doors (including the rear door handles that I ... don't ... have), but I just need to find the time to install them.

@Jack, how long did it take you to put yours in the door handles?

 

It took most of a day. I seem to recall finishing in time for my 4:00 PM martini. The most time was in getting the first door apart (driver's side). Once I learned how to do it, the others were pretty fast. I did 4 doors and the tailgate. I seem to recall that putting in one of the mounting screws was a bit "fiddly", but I don't remember the details.

Wish I had taken pictures, but, I had finished before I even thought of doing that.

I didn't know there was a JimiJammer for the hood, though. It must be new. Nice that you have plates for the mysteriously missing rear door handles! Maybe you can sort of "epoxy" them to the outside of the body, close to where the handles would be!

Well, I'll pick up your slack and take pictures when I'm installing. I figured I'll just let a friend of mine, with a SCrew, have 'em cheap. I'll take pictures of the hood guard, too. That was super easy to install, just 2 bolts.

Tail gate was a bit of a pain, but mostly just because of the small area to work in. That and I couldn't find any way to detach the key mechanism from the actual lock. So I was squeezing parts through the space between. All is good, now.

I remember having a bit of trouble with the tight spaces in the tailgate too. I wish I could remember what it was about one of the screws for the plates in the doors. I can only remember it being "tricky". You'll see what I'm talking about when you get there, I'm sure!

Getting back to the question of installing an after market alarm system, I have installed a Viper system in my truck. No system is an absolute... but it does give peace of mind and lower insurance rates, at least mine did. There are many upgrades for enhanced security with these systems. They are not cheap... The choice is yours.
