Keyless Entry Doorpad

Hi folks,
I am a new member and have just purchased an '04 F150 Lariat. It has the keyless entry pad on the door, but unfortunately I do not know the code used by the previous owner. According to the manual, I need the factory code to reset and enter a new code. Am I understanding this correctly or can anyone help me with this or do I need contact a dealer. Finally, let me say I am very thankful for all the people out there on this forum. I am learning alot about my first F150 and its quirks.

Welcome to the site!

Yes, there is a code from the factory that is always there. You can use it to enter a second personal 5 digit code. So, you can have the factory code and one other. The second can be changed as often as you like, but you must use the factory code to do so.
The code was on a card in the User's Manual, and is usually lost by now.
It is on a label attached to the Body Control Module. The BCM is on the wall behind the back of the rear seat. You can remove the rear seat back to see it and instruction for that are down in the How To section.
You can also go to the dealer and they can hook up a computer and get a reading for you. Usually runs about $35.

Definitely. I use it a lot in the evening when I need in the locked truck and the keys are in the house. Very handy.

BTW, Its just the back of the rear seat. It requires a torx head driver, T-50 and a metric socket. I think an 11, but maybe smaller.

Why does he need a torx bit? I just removed the cap over the seatbelt tower for the middle rear seat and the 2 small nuts under that cap. Then get frustrated while using a long screw driver to press the lower clips in and them presto the seat will come up. I the seatbelt can stay on, at least mine does when I remove the rear seat. But I cheat now, I have the clips zip tied open and the top 2 bolts off of the seatbelt tower...just a lift for me

I was thinking that you had to take the seat belt anchor loose. maybe you don't.

I know when I did my seat riser kit, and when I put my headed seats in the back I took out the seat belt anchor.

I did not try it without doing this, to know if the seat back would go high enough to release at the bottom.

Mtylerb, you and I think alike! If you bought this truck from a Ford dealer, they ought to get the code for you as a gesture of good will. Or if there's a dealer you plan to use for major service, they might do the same.

If all else fails, here's a link on removing the seat back that might help: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...08-my-way.html

I just use them because of the service they've offered. There's 5 dealerships in town I won't touch because they're always screaming at you on the radio. So, I stick with Koch Ford and they've been good to me. I didn't buy my truck there and the first time I went in was for the keypad code. They said, no charge, just bring it in and we'll get it for you. 10 minutes later, I was on my way out with the code!

I didn't know the $35 would cause such a stir. I threw that out there so the other member would know it should cost no more than that, knowing full well that they could proably get it for free.

Here is what happened with me. I added the keyless doorpad to my XLT. When I was at the dealer buying the handle, the electronics guy happened by and I asked him what he would charge to read the code, in case I did not want to mess with the seat. He told me about $35. Then later, after I installed the handle, and while talking to the service manager, he, the service manager, offered to do it for free, including the programming necessary for my BCM. He tried but the BCM would not take the programming for some reason. Ended up setting an appontment for the electronics guy to trouble shoot it and it turned out to be a ground wire that was disconnected. They charged me $100 for the time and labor he spent tracing it all out.

I also just bought an 04 Lariat and need the factory code. Thanks for the info about it being behind the rear seat. Manual did not state that part, figured i would have to go to the dealer.
