Lost my Keys...lol

Hello I'm hoping someone could tell me how to get my truck started?I have a 2000 F-150 and my dumb *** lost the spare key i had for the ignition.Lucky i was able to pop my rear slider to get the door unlocked,I tried to get a key cut but when i went to the dealer,They wouldn't give me the key code because trucks not registered in my name.IDK what else to do cant really afford to call a Locksmith? Can i splice in like a starter button or something lol Maybe just cut the wires nicely and Hot Wire it for a few days then when fixed just connect them back together?Good guess on witch wires those are next thing you know Ive cut every wire under the dash IDK please help Bcuz I'm not going anywhere until I figure this out.......Thankyou....

I think you are out of luck. That should have a PATS system which means you will have to have 2 keys to make any more keys. You will have to have a locksmith or the stealership make 2 keys and program them to your truck. This isn't cheap. Expect to spend at least $150. Good luck!

Don't bother pulling the ignition or waste the money on trying to bump start it with a tow truck.

No PATS key, no start. That easy, it is a communications between the cluster and the PCM.
The PATS keys that are programmed to the truck are stored in the cluster. The key needs to be in the ign to have the cluster tell the PCM it is OK to start.

You can't start it without a key that is programmed to the truck. Don't waste your time with any ideas of pulling the ignition switch or hot wiring it. It won't work.

Well just to add something...if I was you I would take it to a lock smith before the stealership. Because when my buddy lost his keys the dealer wanted 205 to get 2 keys cut and programmed. But the locksmith programmed 2 for $40 plus $30 for each key.

With State Farm insurance if your keys are lost or stolen, in FL at least they will cover new keys cut and reprogrammed, just an idea

I may be seeing something here that's not true, but I think the OP is saying he hasn't got ANY keys for this truck! I'm pretty sure a locksmith needs at least one key to make a "clone", which is not a true "second" key.

I somehow think the dealer is the ONLY place to go and they can do it from the VIN, I believe. But, it sounds like the OP is going to have to have the registered owner of the vehicle with him when he does this.

For the future, get two "original" keys made and then you can program a third "spare" yourself, for the cost of the key only.

He would have to find a locksmith that has a NGS type device.

www.hickok-inc.com is one example of this. They used to have a unit that cost about 3K that would do the PATS clear function, for programing new keys in the truck.

Dang! I keep learning things from you! This thing "reads" the code from the transponder module in the dash? And then, can program the key with it? Pretty slick little device. Wonder how many locksmiths have them? I can't imagine the demand for this service is huge, especially since Ford can do it at the dealerships.

Actually it is a subset NGS, where you enter programming mode, and erase the PATS RFID tags in the cluster.

Once this happens, the truck is in learn mode, and then next 2 keys cycled through the ign ( off to run, forget the # of times right now ) are stored in the Cluster.

So rather than spending 10K + for a PDS ( what replaced the NGS ), this is a function specific one.

I have not looked at the site to see what they have now. They might have a subset PDS now.

Okey Dokey - I think I understand what I didn't want to acknowledge in your earlier post now. (Gotcha! My mistake qualifies for "stupid" post status!)

So, this cool device could let you swap instrument clusters in your truck and program new keys, or maybe even your old ones, to start it, right? (Careful, if you say no, I get more "stupid post" points!)

What mistake in what post ?? Is post #12 still in this thread

I didn't get any stupid points yesterday, now I going to just try harder today.

It might be able to do the other parameters for the cluster swap, I never looked to see if it would clear the PCM ID in the cluster.
I could take a SWAG and say yes, as it access the cluster. ???

Good question, so no stupid points for you either
