I would think ANY auto parts store like Pep Boys, Checker, Auto Zone, etc., or a place like Camping World would have them.

Dumb question of the day ( it really is my 1st today, I have a chance ).

Isn't the truck side male ? The pins stick out on yours, don't they ?

I know it has been awhile since I looked at it ( DEC-08 to be specific ), but I could have though.....

I guess I should ask, are you wanting a replacement for your truck, or a trailer side connector ?

U-Haul sells steel-shelled connectors, which are slightly harder to shatter by dropping, etc. than the common plastic shells.

Wasn't a dumb question at all, Steve! You're dead right. I think he's asking for a trailer side socket here. (I should learn to read more carefully). :o

The sockets should be available in any auto parts store.

Oops!

Yes sscully you are right! My mistake! I am needing the trailerside plug. The truck side seems to be Ford specific because of the different grooves. The 7-way that I have on the trailer won't fit. Of course Ford wants $71 for both sides. If I cant find one I'll just replace the truck side.

thanks

What do you mean Ford specific ? This is a standard 7pin trailer connector on the truck.

I know Wells Cargo uses the same one, have not seen another 7 pin config that did not work with the one on the truck.

Does yours look like the pictures above ?

This is straight from the trailer tow directions from Ford

7-pin on the truck side is about 13.99, and 7-pin to 4-pin plug adapter was about 5 bucks at west marine, which was cheaper than any of the auto parts stores by 10 bucks...

There are 2 styles of connector: 7-blade (which has 6 blades & a central pin) as shown in SSCULLY's post, and 7-pin, which is slightly less-common. Otherwise, there should be nothing different. Either should be available at any trailer store.

SSCULLY, yes the pictures you have of the plug and the diagram of the housing is what I have but the plug I have has a larger diameter than my housing. Why? I don't know, but seems like i'll just get another plug. I didn't know if it was something Ford did, to make you buy their plug.
Thanks

What is the trailer manufacture ?

I know the Wellcargo works with the Ford trailer connector, and the Chariot is the same.
Both of these trailer plugs worked in a Hoppy add on 7 pin, on another truck ( my '90 Dodge ) as well.

Dad's '93 Ram 2500 work truck also has the same trailer connector on it ( those are both his trailers ).

Post pics of the plug NOT going into the socket so we can see the difference in sizes.
