LED's For Puddle lamps

I just ordered some LED's for my interior, cargo, and plate lights.

Only thing that would not be LED are my puddle lamps on my towing mirrors.

I thought I saw a thread with someone taking them apart and changing it to a LED????

Any help would be awesome!!

Thanks

What you're after is in this thread: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ki...amps-leds.html

The ones I got from VirtualVillage work great.

Jack,

Do you know what the diameter of the factory puddle lamp is ?

I found some LED lights that are 30 mm across that might work for adding as puddle lamps ( ones from autolumination.com ).

I was thinking rather then getting the factory ones, ordering these, cutting the hole for them, and building up around it with JB Weld for screw mounting so they could be switched out if needed.

Steve, the OEM light modules contain 31mm festoon bulbs. And, they're sealed, which means you have to cut them apart and glue them back together.

The diameter of the module itself is about 1 1/2 inches as near as I can tell without taking it out of a mirror (which I don't want to do because it's too easy to break a tab). I think I looked at the lights you are talking about with the same idea in mind, but since they were smaller than the openings in my mirrors, I decided they wouldn't work very well.

If you're going to modify a "standard" mirror by cutting a hole, I imagine those LEDs would work fine.

Jack,

Thanks that will do it. The factory lamp has enough room for a ~ 38 mm lens, which means the 30 mm LED lights, there is enough room on the bottom of the mirror head to cut the opening.

My mirrors are the heated / turn '06 mirrors, no puddle lamp, that is why I was asking. Not trying to retro fit an existing puddle lamp fixture.

I'll order those LED bulb heads, and give it a try. Worse case, if I trash it is I need to get a new mirror head, and then I'll get the correct ones
