Turn signal/brake light fuse blows

I have a 2000 F150 and the turn signals and brake lights were not working. I narrowed it down to fuse #13. In the manual it is listed as the power to Stop lamp switch (lamps), turn hazard flasher, speed control module. I replaced the fuse and everything worked for about an hour. The next time I went to use the truck the same fuse was blown. Any ideas? A short in the flasher?

I would suspect the MFS switch causing the problem, considering the turn signals, as well as blowing the fuse for the BOO switch together.

When you replace the fuse, do the turn signals work correctly ( until the fuse blows ) ?

Remove the lower part of the steering wheel column and see if the connector under there is pulled apart, and if the MFS connector is still good. Over time these can pull apart, and cause problems, usually in the turn signal function.

If the turn signals worked correctly, I would think a problem with the BOO switch is causing the problem.

Has everyone forgotten about the recall for the leaky SCDS and the trucks going up in flames and that a blown F13 is one of its manifestations?

Search keyword "05S28" - the recall number.

I did not forget about the leaky SCDS, but I did have had a brain fart with the Fuse #13, so I will guess yes ?:o

Thanks for pointing this out to pinnola, correct diagnoses I should have asked this first even with forgetting the Fuse #13.

Thanks for the advice about the speed control. I will get the recall work done and hopefully that's it. Also, did you mean BPP - brake pedal position switch?

I had the recall work done for the speed control and service manager and mechanic both said there is no way that would cause the fuse to blow. That was 4 days ago and it hasn't blown since.

Tell them to look at the EVTM cell 13-9.
CJB fuse #13 feeds both the BPP switch ( EVTM cell 90-3 ) & the deactivation switch ( EVTM cell 31-2 ).

Strange, I am not ASC certified, but I can figure out the EVTM ( with a reminder from Steve ), why can't they ?

00 Ford F150 Fuse 13 keep blowing

I finally found the cause of mine 00 Ford F150 fuse 13 blowing. After checking the brake wiring, brake connectors, flasher/relay connectorand blinker connector by disconnecting each connector and putting in a new fuse to see if it would blow. On the last fuse I ran out of the 20 amp called for in the and used a 25 amp. I found out real quick as soon as I put in the 25 amp where my short was. Under the hood in the drivers corner started smoking alot! Nearly caught my truck on fire but finally found the problem was the crusie control deativation switch. It does have a recall so all i did was disconnect it until I can get it fixed. Now I'm driving around with brake lights and turn signals again! Thanks for you help on here narrowing down what connectors to check!

Same problem! I had some dbag neighbors that didn't appreciate the way I told them to keep their obnoxious bass music down, so the next week I have 2 vehicles with drained batteries... battery in the fusion was toasted, replaced, no big deal. But now, on my 2000 f150, fuse 13 blows out immediately when I replace it. So I have no cruise, blinkers OR brake lights. I'm thinking they did something with a ground wire from outside. Starter? Trailer plug in? Ideas?
