Rookie need help on rear window dilema
ok guys im 19 and just bought my first truck. 06 F150 Lariat supercrew long bed. i go pick it up this weekend but im trying to get a power sliding rear window put in first but they keep telling me the switch will have to go by the headlight controls which i know is where the ford kit puts it but if i can id prefer it to be put in its factory position next to the moonroof switch. so heres my question. is it really that impossible or are they just being a lil lazy/tryin to save on cash? and if it is possible how difficult will it be to do? should i have them put the window in and try to order the other parts and do it myself? any suggestions are welcome
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the help!
Don't know where they are going to mount it, unless it is a surface mount switch.
The part of the dash by the switch ( silver color ) is part of the larger dash section, and if they screw that up making an oval hole, they will have to replace quite a large part of the dash ( parts diagram from Ford if they call BS on this )

The part that is where the adjustable pedal switch is installed is 130.00 MSRP in fixed pedal configuration shown as #7 above ( www.oemfordparts.com did not have the adjustable version listed ).
That is the cost component to "if they mount is wrong"
A Lariat should have the wiring for this installed in it from the factory, which means everything they are gluing onto your truck is not really needed. Don't know for sure what is there, and not there until the trim is removed, but they seem to be using a one size fits all kit for your truck.
If you want to chance it, have them mount the glass, and take the remaining parts yourself. If the switch is surface mounted, then have them do the install, and move the switch later, which would be a bunch of wire, and some soldering.
I would have to guess they are just using a one size fits all kit for your install.

ok so what ur saying is that an lariat 06 lariat should be wired already and i should just have to buy a new overhead mini console and switch and move my moonroof switch over abit? and that they are probably using a kit they use on any truck so they dont have to worry about whether its wired or not? and please forgive me on this last one because im new to these terms but what do u mean by surface mounted? they just stick it on to the dash somewhere rather than drill a hole and put it IN the dash? Thanks for all your help, its greatly appreciated
The Lariat should be wired. That is the highest trim level, on par with the FX4 Lux version.
If you buy the new overhead, buy it with both options ( moon roof, and rear slider ). This should have the cut outs in it already. Purchase the new rear window switch, and reuse the moon roof switch.
The one size fits all kit is just for that, works on a XL, XLT, etc.
The surface mount is a switch that is stuck to the trim, rather then drilled into the dash. I hope that is what they would have, drilling the dash parts, can get harry if they mess it up.
Hope this helps, sorry for the delay.

Thanks alot, youve been a ton of help. I cant be sure if they wanted to surface mount it or not but I think they wanted to drill it. I didnt discuss it too much more with them because somehow they managed to mess up the shifter while they were gettin the truck ready for me to the point that they could barely get it in gear so I pretty much told them to stop touching the truck if they could keep from it haha. i'll try to quote it with my local dealer next I guess. Thanks again.
Take a look in the upper console for a 8 pin connector.
it should have 5 wires in it, and 3 unused pins.
The wires should be :
light blue w/ black stripe - Accessory delay relay circuit
black - ground
black - ground
yellow w/ light blue stripe - to motor
red w/ yellow stripe - to motor
The wire to the motor might not be there, but this is where the connector should be at, or close to it. Maybe in the pass side c-pillar ?

Wire up I did with his, and others input ( right click save as )

The overhead console on my '06 just pulls down, spring clips hold it in place. I don't have a moon roof, so verify this with your install, when looking up there for the connector.
If you want to DIY, Rockpick did his power slider on his truck some time ago.

Just a thought if your dealer cannot get into your truck without breaking something, don't know if you trust them to do this.

Don't know if you saw this the other day, some posted the URL for the install directions on Ford Accessories

1st file to be listed is
F-150 (2004-2008) Power Sliding Rear Window Installation Instructions
This shows what the dealer was going to do with the kit ( dill a hole in the dash surround ( item #7 above )
It was a good idea to wait until you got the inside warmer, you might have snapped some plastic yanking the overhead out.

Ok sry for the long delay but its finally warmed up enough(wouldnt fit in the garage haha) for me to pull downmhy overhead console and what i saw was 2 connectors. 1 for the map lights and then one that is directly behind my moonroof switch. it has 5 maybe 6 wires running to it. no connector just hangin there like i hoped but is it possible that maybe they would share that connector and just come down to seperate switches? ill try to get a picture of it for you. thanks again for all your help
