04's don't have daytime running lights. They have off, on, or auto. Read your manual.

I had daytime running lights put on my truck from FORD and you press the e brake one click too turn them off. Try that and see if that works for you.

Check your owners manual in the fuse section ( page 198 )

There is a DRL Relay. Pull the DRL relay, and the lights will stop working.

This is if they are a factory install.

I installed DRLs in my 05 using the Ford DRL module. I don't remember it having a fuse or DRL relay, since the high and low beams are already relay controlled.

If the previous owner did what I did, look for a small, rectangular, silver colored box located somewhere up against the firewall near your brake pedal or, if it was installed like I did mine, screwed onto the parking brake pedal bracket. You should be able to find a black colored wire coming from it to some convenient ground point, and, I bet if you disconnected that....

But, how come you don't like them? Is this why you're "crazy" and "Irish"?

P.S. Guinness rules!

Jack, now you are just telling tales out fo school

You know better, the low beams have no relay.

That is cool about the aftermarket version from Ford being an add in module right in the cab of the truck vs. using the DRL relay in the Aux fuse panel under the hood, and the DRL resistor.

Are they at full brightness as DRLs, or is the electric heater, I mean DRL resistor in the add on module ?

Oh Steve - it must have been a "senior moment"! :o You're totally right of course, I was confusing separate fuses for each side of the low beams with relays! Duh! (Hate it when I do things like this).

But, back to the module: I got it from Millennium Ford, $69.90 incl shipping (looking at invoices and installation pamphlets now, to help my failing memory) Part # F6SZ 13B218 AA. It has six wires, and the black one IS the ground wire. And, DUH, again, It has it's own fuse in the Red 12V hot wire (which could also be pulled to disable it, I suppose).

It's a completely sealed unit so I can't talk about its internals. According to the pamphlet, the DRLs operate at "reduced voltage", whenever the ignition is ON. It "does not operate when the parking brake is applied or when the headlamps are switched on". Also, "If the brake fluid is below recommended fill levels, the BRAKE warning indicator will illuminate and the DRL feature will be disabled". It is a Ford product. I seem to remember (but again, my memory may be failing, that they operate at 60% brightness, according to the information I looked at when I ordered them).

All wiring is in the cab. I had to pull the steering wheel to get to the wires into the multifunction and ignition switches. The others were pretty straightforward. Took me an afternoon to do it properly (soldering connections and shrink wrapping them, encasing the wires in plastic split conduit, etc.) They work perfectly - and don't interfere with the Auto-On headlight feature.

My insurance company even gives me a small discount for having them.

I'm absolutely convinced they CAN reduce accidents, and personally think they should be mandatory. (OK, off the soapbox). At least other people can see me coming now!
