window switch dead...can I remove the cluster surround?

It is super cold (-25 c) and I am driving around like a moron with my window 3" open 'cause it won't roll up!:o Is there a way to pop off the panel surround of the switch cluster on the drivers side without taking apart the whole door....and popping the switch out and cleaning the contacts or replacing the switch?

And, The LED is out on the door lock switch...same deal, can I replace the light or is it a whole switch?

BTW 04 Screw Lariat

Pop the speaker cover off ( clips around the edges ).

The switch cover now pops up from the inside ( towards where you sit ) tabs are under the door handle part of the cover ).

You can use a plastic trim tool, or if you are VERY CAREFUL, a 1" putty knife covered in a rag ( PITA bit wide, and you need to taek it slow, else scratch city )

SSCULLY - forgive me for doubting you, but I had to take off all my inside door panels when I installed Jimi-Jammers and I'm pretty sure you can get the switch cover off the armrest without messing with the speaker cover. I think it just prys up off the armrest, and once it's up, you can disconnect all wiring to the switches. It's possible, though, you have to remove the door handle first (hidden screw behind a small access plate behind the handle) to get clearance for the cover to lift up.

My Haynes manual shows this to be the step right BEFORE removing the speaker covers when you remove the door panel too.

As I recall, I did the prying with a plastic putty knife.

I actually did this just before posting to the thread on my 2006, to make sure I had the order correct. 2004 could be different door panel though...

Done in this order, the switch panel popped right up

Interesting Steve. I see now how this might work on mine too (but I'm not going to pull the speaker cover off just to test it). I suspect we ALL have the same door panels.

And dalman, sorry, I don't know for sure if the light is part of the switch or not. However, I seem to remember reading on the appearance forum that it's a tiny light inside the switch. This was in response to a post wondering about replacing all those lights with LEDs.

Yes, there are a few threads on here about the topic ( as well as changing the LEDs to a different color ).

Considering the cost of a new switch, might not be worth the runnign around
