LED Bulbs

ok new to the site, just wanted to say i already love it!
but anyway i ran across a small problem today
and this is going to be long so i apologise in advance

being that my truck is a flareside i HAD to change to lightning style taillights
but the ones i bought had two holes for bulbs in the brake light section, im assuming because the 97's had a separate bulb for the blinker. so i got 2 more "pigtails" from the junkyard and hooked all that up.
the ultimate result is i now have 4 brakelight bulbs (2 in each taillight)
apparently the manufacturer did a ****ty job making them because my new second bulb started to melt the friggin lens. needless to say i was pissed.
so my next logical step was to get the LED bulbs since they emit way less heat.
so now i have 1 normal bulb and 1 LED bulb in each taillight.
my new problem is that the LED doesnt get brighter when i push the brake or when i put the blinker on.
however with all the lights on it will blink (oddly at the same rate as the normal bulb)

so i guess my question is
are they not getting brighter because the normal bulb is still plugged in? (the two outlets are simply spliced)
or is it just a cheap bulb? i just picked them up from autozone today.

sorry for my life story up there ^ haha

Shouldn't be because there is 2 different bulb types on the same circuit.
The new trucks have LED mirror turn signals, with front and rear incandescent bulbs, so that is simulating the same install as your truck.

I remove one of the S/T/T from one side, and install it in place of the LED on the other side, and see if you have a problem with the incandescent bulb in the new socket, as a test.

Good Luck, let us know what happens

No, the problem is you have a 3156-type LED. The 3156 has one brightness. On. You need the 3157-type which has two brightnessess. On for running, and high for brake/turn signals. Check out the search feature up top. I have typed so many posts on LEDs its friggin uncountable.

Did you get things figured out? I didn't think it would be the wrong type LED bulb, since between the 3156 and 3157 bulbs, the posts on the side of the socket are not the same (at least I think I am talking about the right type of bulb socket here...).

3156 and 3157 have the same posts because I have seen several guys use 3157's in their -56 sockets and vice versa. If you put a -56 in a -57 you will lose that second brightness.
