'06 Remote Keyless Question

Hi There...

New owner of an F150 ('06 Screw XLT), and I have a question about factory RKE. Up until this truck, I've been a bow-tie kind of guy...

First, the background - I bought the truck used, and did not get any keyfobs... As the truck was in XLT trim, and only had a keylock on the driver's door (not on the passenger), I assumed it had RKE. Off to the dealer I go, picked up a keyfob. Followed the programming procedure, no luck - the lock's didn't cycle. I had them run the VIN, and the build sheet showed that it SHOULD have remote keyless (showed "with remote control unit; less keyless entry") - the service tech explained that meant I should have remote keyless, but not the keypad entry on the door. So, now I'm confused, but didn't have time to deal with it then.

Now, onto the question - I got up under the dash, and looked for where the keyless unit should be installed at (thanks to another thread on the board) - and I see the 22 pin connector; hanging. I'm wondering if this vehicle DID have RKE, and someone removed it? Going to the lot I bought it from isn't an option, as I assumed the truck had RKE, but it wasn't sold with it listed. Is it possible to purchase this module, to add RKE, and if so, does anyone have a part number for it?

Sorry for being long-winded on my first post...

Laz

Being an XLT it will have RKE. You need to order the part from the dealer... Or add an Aftm alarm with actuators... '

Sorry....

P.S. BOWTIES SUCK!!!

1. When you followed the programming steps, did you try more then once ?

The only reason I ask, is it took me 3 tries to get my truck to enter RKE programming mode, thought the first 2 tries were the same as #3, but obviously they were not. I really had to haul through the cycles to get it to enter programming mode.

2. Just because you have a trim level, does not mean it is programmed to work. Several members here had to have their BSM / VSM prgrammed for the key pad, even though the wiring was installed. The BSM/VSM can have options turned on by the dealer ( guess they got sick of the DKY keypad installs done here ?? ). So if you try ( tried ) more then once, it could be it is turned off.

3. The BSM/VSM is not installed in the same place as the RAP / CSM on 00-03 MY trucks, with your SCrew body style, it is behind the rear seat, about center of the rear wall ( just below the movable window, if you have a rear slider ).

If you really want to see it, you can remove the rear seat back.

Thumbs up Keyless

Trying the programming a couple of times is a good idea! also adding an after market alarm is a better idea, you would have better range and obviously the extra protection from prying eyes, and since you have power locks it would be a simple install for any of your local shops to give you the keyless feature.

You can get a "factory" alarm from ford manufactured by Code alarms. They plug into the existing harness, and they have a remote start!. The only new things to run are the bump sensors.

Now we're talking... Would you happen to know model or part #'s?

Thanks

I'm with SSCULLY on this one- the truck should definitely have RKE- keep trying on the programing- make sure there aren't any blown fuses or such. Many times it takes more than 1 try- don't know why. What you are probably looking at under the dash is the loom for an after market security system that many of the dealers install on all cars on the lot- in hopes of selling it to you at an inflated price. If you say you don't want it they have the lot kid remove the brain (just unplugs) and leave everything else in place. Not worth the bother to remove all the rest of that stuff. Two of the new cars that I have purchased were exactly like that. Said I didn't want it and when I looked under the dash later everything was still there- they had just removed the brain.
P.S. On an 06 it should be completely activated from factory.

i had the exact same problem i got it tho took a lot of researching lol its simple tho k enter the vehicle like your going to set the FOB with the 8 turns or whatever it is before that tho hit the lock and then unlock button for some reason you have to enter electronically so either that or use your keyless entry keypad because you just bought the vehicle if you dont know the keypad code go and take off the rear seat backrest the module is behind there with the number on it

i was in the same boat as you just bought the truck needed FOBs got them off ebay tho cheap

Just an update - in addition to my trying the programming several (maybe a dozen) times - a service advisor, and a service tech from the dealer also tried a few times each. Left them scratching their head's too. When they ran the VIN, said it SHOULD have RKE.

I'm starting to think that I'm just going to go with an aftermarket alarm/remote start pakage, rather then putting much more effort into figuring out why the factory RKE isn't working...

Thanks

Laz

Keyless entry pad

I have a 2006 XLT and have the fobs for keyless entry. Does this package already include the wiring harnesses that I can add a door handle with key pad to open the locks?

The service adviser and tech are not too bright.
They should have hooked up the WDS, and got the as built data from the BSM/VSM, to confirm it was enabled. This is what I was getting at in post #3, item #2 above. Just like the keypad on the door handle, things can now be turned on and off. I can only imagine that they did this at the dealers request, as someone could DYI the items without dealer intervention. Ford still got the parts order, it was just cutting the dealer service department out of the loop.

The other thing you can do is just get a Code Alarm {version} from Travis at KCAutosound.com. For an additional 25.00 he will pre wire it for your MY truck and provide all the DIY directions.

ALO- The door will have the wiring and plug- you just have to remove the plug closure cap and plug in once you have installed you keypad handle. if the keypad lites up when you hit the appropriate keys you should be good to go. I have an '04 and my "brain" was not "turned on". It is my understanding the latter ones were activated from the factory. If your isn't, the dealer will have to put it on their computer to turn it on. Good luck.
