Fuel Pump

Ok so my problem is I have a explorer with a 4.0,i CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP and it dosent turn on when I turn the key. So I checked the relays and fuses and cant find the problem.I know the pump works becose i hard wired it and it works.What else should i look for .Is there a way to jest wire it my self to the fuse box(to a key on source). thanks for the replys in advance

What year Exploder? Can't look up any diagrams without proper identification.

We'll assume you checked the inertia switch that is covered in the owner's manual.

Check to see if you have voltage getting to the FP.

1991 explorer sport,and yes i checked the inertia switch. There is no volts to the pump.thank you for the responces

Well you said the relay and fuse are ok, how did you check the relay?

put a new 1 in, is there a way to check them?

Well did it fix it? Yes, a 9v batt and a dvom/just cheap meter. Pins 85 & 86 are for power(coil side) 30 and 87 close when coil is energized. If it has 5 pins 87a is closed without power and works the same as other. Use 9v to energize, listen for a click, if it clicks coil is good, and then with the batt. hooked up check resistance on 30 and 87, should be .2 ohms or less.

No it did not fix the problem. I think the wire is busted .Im not surewhat you mean by 30,87,Im kind of a idiot when it comes to electrical So if you can explane to a dummie it would help. thanx

They are generic pin #'s of the relay. 30 & 87 are the switched side, 30 would be the power from the fuse and 87 would go to the FP. 85 & 86 are the coil side, usually controlled by the pcm. Hope this helps, if not let me know and i will further clear it up.

No I havent found it yet, tomarrow Im going to try to rewire the pump.I know it has something to do with the positive wire,when I hooked up a jumper wire from the battery to the pump it worked and fired right up.So I gess Ill try that and hope for the best .I already fallowed the wire and cant find any breaks.Thanx again for your help, and Ill let you no If it works.(and how long)
