HELP!!, my RCM is broken

Alright, This is my first time posting on this site, and I'm not sure if the picture is going show up, so bear with me...anyways, my restraint control module recently acquired a nice new hole through, what i think, is the power supply (see picture below...hopefully it worked), and I am in need of some help. I'd rather not talk about how this hole got there, but a self tapping screw had something to do with it, and the dealership is saying that it's over $2k to fix...which isn't really compatible with the current balance in my bank account.

I would like to try and repair this myself, but being that this thing is part of the airbag system, the last thing i wanna do is set off the airbag. I think if i can acquire the male and female parts for the RCM power supply, I could possibly do it on my own; what do you all think? am I screwed?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

My first suggestion would be to replace the module with one from a junkyard, if you can find it.

My next suggestion is to disconnect the battery ground cable before you do any work on this, if it is associated in any way withthe airbags.

And finally (another member told me about this a few months ago and I've forgotten the details) you can upload your pictures on "photobucket.com" and then put a link to those pictures in your posts. Maybe a smarter member than me could help you out if you did this.

I know where you are brother. From your post, I think I've done things like this to my stuff too.

Question

Have you tried to price this module? That $2,000 quote seems a bit steep. I just had to have one of those replaced on my wife's S-10 P/U and the total bill, parts and labor, from the Chevy Dealer was less than $600 - and I thought that was bad.

BTW, if you get a module from a salvage yard, be sure the air bags weren't deployed on the vehicle it came from. I read somewhere that the module has to be reflashed after a bag deployment - another chance for the Ford Dealer to gouge you.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help guys. Yea, I even consulted one of the local dealership's service guys, before screwing anything down, just to make sure I wouldn't hit something, and he told me i'd be fine....that's the last time I take their word for anything. I think i got the pictures working, see below:

I haven't gotten any other estimates yet, but I definately am going too, because I could buy some much cooler stuff than an RCM with $2k. I like the junkyard idea as well; I'll check that out. It looks like i need a new wire harness also; you guys think it would be worth trying to replace just the plug end? or do you think I'm going to need run a whole new harness?

Thanks,
Mike
