Warning Chime Problem

How is the warning chime supposed to activate?

Well, mine turns on whenever the drivers door is opened... my key isn't in the ignition and the lights aren't on. Is this normal?

Can anybody help me out? I drive a 2001 F150, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Mickey

Sounds like the key pin for the warning is broken in the ign switch.

You can take out the ign switch, and dump out the broken part, or follow this thread :

I tried beating out anything that was in the tumbler assembly and nothing seemed to come out and I still have the beeping. Do you have any other suggestions?

I talked to a guy at my Ford service department and he said that they could put it on a computer and then tell the ding to only happen with the lights on, but it seems like this is more complicated than just a simple reflash of my computer. What do you think?

I tried putting tape of the metal tab in the tumbler housing and that didn't work either. This really has me stumped!

Got your message Mickey. I still haven't found a solution for it. I heard it has something to do with some sort of broken pin piece in the ignition part on the driver column. But I'm always skeptical of taking things apart on my truck. If anybody has pictures, or maybe even a website that has what we're looking for, it'd be greatly appreciated!
