4X4 lights won't go off!

I live in the lovely Northeast and we are getting some snow to play in. Friday night I had the truck in 4WD. I put it in 2WD but now the 4X4 light won't go off. It is going in and out of 4WD fine. Also, I put it in 4 low and that light won't go out! Anyone ever have this problem? Does anyone know what fuse I can pull to get them to go off?

alright we need a little more information...

do the lights go off when its in 2wd?
how do you have them wired? are the wired to the battery through a simple switch or are they tied in with the cars fuse block and electrical system?

have you followed all the wires and looked for a short?

let me know and ill try to help

Sorry, should have been more specific. These are the dash lights for the 4X4 and 4LO, not aftermarket lights. I am just glad the 4WD is working good but these lights being on is annoying.

its alright my fault for readin it wrong. i would take it into the stealer and have them look for a short. have you tried resetting the computer? put it in 2wd and disconnect the battery ground (black wire) leave it off for about 30 sec then reattach it and see if the problem is still there

good luck!!

opposite problem

I have the opposite problem on my 05, 4x4 works great, but the 4x4 high light won't come on... 4x4 low will though. I'm guessing a loose wire, because the light does come on during the key on self test, but its too darn cold and wet to go crawling under it today.

anybody else have this problem?

I had a problem similar to this on my Sport Trac. Driving down the road the 4x4 Low light would come on and my speedo would read as if I were going 30 instead of 50. Dealer replaced gauge pod and some sensors, then went away. 4x4 still worked with no problems.

I'll try disconnecting the ground tonight. Supposed to get around a foot of snow!

No luck with disconnecting the battery. The 4LO light went off this morning but the 4X4 won't go off.

Lever in the floor. I am going to pull the boot off this weekend and have a look down there. At least it is working ok! Just annoying.

sorry it took so long to post back but it was an oil pressure switch oddly. its the one that is in your transfer. case go underneath the truck and look for it in the front of the tcase there are 2 wires going to is wrapped in that black plastic casing stuff un plug the wires and it should look similar to a spark plug. use a 7/8(i think) wrench to take it out, to be sure you took out the right part it should be about the size of a spark plug and have a spring loaded steel marble protruding out the end or stuck in side. order another one from ford (its a ford only part) $40.00 and replace. dont drive your truck with it out tho. what would happen to mine was the marble would get stuck inside tus leaving the dash lights on. hope fully this helps.

my 99 started doing this but after using it for a week or 2 the issue cleared on its own I am guessing some debris started stopping the marble from moving on the sensor mine would go off after some good size bumps jared it free. You could try cleaning it before replacing also. Since it is not affecting 4x4 performance I would let it go and see if it clears up on its own with use of the 4x4.

I have a 97 that had the light stay on. check that it is attached to the switch on the front of your transfer case. if you remove the wire from the transfer case and put a wire in the 2 ends of the socket it will act like the switch and the light should go out
