Electrochromatic mirror

Hi all:

Does anyone know how to recal. the compass on the Ford Electrochromatic mirror? My temp works and the auto dim works but the compass does not read so Im thinking it needs a reboot. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I believe all you have to do to calibrate the compass is find an open area, away from overhead wires or metal structures, and drive in a circle for a couple loops.

The '99 owners manuals are really for crap, search for compass turned up nothing ( as in, the OM says it is not in there ?? )
One thing you can try is to download a 2001 Owners Manual, and try the procedure listed starting on page 56

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp

This is press & hold the select button until CAL shows in the display, before driving in circles. Watch your speed, they are not kidding when they say les then 3 MPH. Any faster, and you will just get dizzy ( won't calibrate )

Worth a try to press and hold the Select button to see if CAL shows up in the display ???

The procedure is the same as for the overhead console, which is described in this thread. For vehicles with the compass in the instrument cluster, you still use the reset button on the mirror. It's just harder to find.

The cars from the late 80s use the same compass calibration procedure and include an offset for the part of the country you live in by asking for an entry number corasponding to your location from a map that should be provided in your book.
The only differences thru the years is how you access the calibration controls.

Hi all:

Thanks for the speedy reply's. I tried the recal as you guys described but I think I may have a problem with the mirror itself. As i cant get it to go into cal mode and all that shows on the display is a bunch of garbage. I tried to add a picture of what I get and if anyone has seen this displayed before maybe they can point me in the right direction.

Thanks again

That link doesn't work. I suggest you upload your pics to SuperMotors - it's free, and it provides the text needed to embed an image into this type of BBS.

If you right-click any image, you should get a context menu with "Properties" at the bottom. Click that, then triple-click the URL text to select all of it. Hit Ctrl+C to copy it. Then, in your post here, click the image icon (yellow w/mountain & sun) & hit Ctrl+V to paste the URL into the dialogue box, then ENTER & it'll remote-link the image into your post, like this:

If that's all it ever shows, it appears to be fried.
