Wiring mod for cruise control light

I'm wondering if its somehow possible to add an indicator light or lights to let me know two things about my cruise control:

1) when it's on and/or
2) when I actually have it set on cruise

I do alot of highway and freeway driving and use my C/C alot and I'd just like to have a visual reminder. Too bad this generation of 150's didnt come with anything like that. Any wiring guru's know or think this is possible? Thanks.

Yes, every cruise servo has an indicator output on pin 1. It switches to ground when cruise is active, so a bulb connected from that to ignition switched power would light when the cruise is active.

I don' think they have an "ON" output.

To my knowledge the 150s don't have an 'on' indicator, just a 'set' indicator as Steve mentioned.

There is one (IIRC, the Freestar??) that has an 'on' indicator, but no 'set' indicator. It wasn't any better or worse.

Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks alot for the info!
One more thing, can you tell me where the cruise servo is located so I can start "tinkering" and testing with the output pin? Thanks.

Steve,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just pulled up the connector pin-out for C157 on a 97 F-150... I'm not seeing the input to ground a light in the dash.

Thinking back, I don't think my 97 had one either... My '00 does, as does my 98 Explorer, but IIRC, the 97s didn't have it. I couldn't find anything in the instrument cluster for it either.....

Soo... I pulled up the same connector for my 2000... low and behold everything is identical, so it's got me wondering: Does the output for the light exist on the '97 servo and it's just not used, or is it a different servo?

Either way, I don't know how it could be spliced into to indicate on or off, just set or not set. Does on and off really make much of a difference?

The trucks aren't wired for the light - true. But all the servos are built with that circuit.

Good to know!

Do you know if it's an input or an output on the servo? The schematic for my 2000 lists it as an output, but again, it's kind of ambiguous...

It's an output to the light. What do you mean? You can't input anything thru a bulb. How is it ambiguous?

Just look around under the hood. It's not hard to find - just follow the 2 cables coming off the throttle lever. One goes thru the firewall to the pedal; the other goes to the servo.

. .
