Question Question for those using the Optima batteries in cold climates.

Just wanted some info about how well the Optima batteries perform in cold weather (-20C and colder, not sure what the Fahrenheit conversion is). My stock battery is 3 years old and the winters where I live are hard on them. I'm looking at an Optima but I want to be sure it will stand up to the temp extremes here (-40C to +40C isn't unusual). Thanks in advance.

-20C is -4F
what you want is a battery with really good CCA (cold cranking amps)
Optimas are good but i think they are over priced, a quality battery with a high CCA will be just as good.

I have used Optima batteries for more than fourteen years in various vehicles, as a matter of fact I have one that is 7 years old.

They are worth every nickel you pay for them, and have never let me down in the cold, heat, or any climate. Spent four hours in the tree stand this afternoon, and the high temp today was 14' F. I had no doubt the battery would have plenty of juice to start the truck when I was freezing my a$$ off.

Most of the red tops are a minimum of 720 cca...spec for the '04-up F-150 is minimum of 540. Optimas ARE a quality battery.

Is it cold out? It's time.

I bought my truck in September of '05, and had the Red Top in the truck before the first of October.

Batteries are a maintenance item. They wear out, and I'd rather know I have a good one, instead of waiting for it to break down (or in this case, not start).

and you are answering the question or helping this thread....how?

Remember what your Momma used to say...if you can't say something nice, don't say it.

So the new version would be: If you can't say anything helpful to the question asked in the forum, then don't respond.

If you want to hear other things your mother says...I'll tell you later.

Thanks for the input guys. I was just curious to hear more about the Optima before I bought one. One lesson I've learned over the years is when it comes to batteries you get what you pay for. I would rather spend good money on a quality product and have it last 6-7 years over saving a few bucks and replace it every other year.

8 years on a battery?? you are pushing your luck lol. the weather is getting weirder every year. winter feels like spring, summer are hot as hell lately. id replace that battery as soon as possible. one day its 60 and sunny, next day its 25 and were getting hammered with a storm.

I have the yellow top, and the only thing I'd trade it for would be the almost unheard of blue top optima
