Speed sensor wire location
Speed sensor wire location
Hi,
I have a 99 F150 and just bought a navigation system (Pioneer). It requires that I hook up to the speed sensor wire. I am having trouble finding what wire that is. I found a ECM pinout diagram for a cobra that says it's pin 68 a white/orange wire. Does anybody have any idea if if this is correct for the F150? Alternatively does anybody know where I can easily hook into the speed sensor?
Thanks
Bill

There MIGHT be another, but I doubt it. If you find one, just follow it to wherever it leads - if it goes to some component that can't possibly use the VSS, then it's the wrong one. But if it goes to something I listed, and there's only 1 going there, then you've got the right one.
After another hour or so looking, I find that at the speed sensor on the transmission, there is a brown and a dark green/ yellow stripe wire. Using a wire toner I followed it up to the ECM on the passenger firewall, but can not find it beyond that location. I do find a gray/black stripe wire on the cruse control module on the drivers side fender well. So I have a choice, the commonly reported vss wire that is gray black on the cruise control, or the wire I can follow to the vss on the transmission that is dark green/black. Any opinions?
Thanks

DB/Y is the OSS input to the PCM. Pk is the VSS input to the PCM. Gy/Bk is the VSS output from the PCM to the cruise & the GEM. That's definitely the one to use since it also feeds the stock radio's speed-sensitive volume. You should find the Gy/Bk wire in the radio connector.
