cruise/airbag

Took 2001 F 150 4X4 in for the recall, everything was working fine then, Now the cruise works but green cruise light does not come on. Also the airbag light flashes. Of course the dealer says they never touched the airbag system. But can not understand how all this takes place after a "free recall"

Sorry checking for a friend and had wrong year .

1. Are you sure you had a green cruise control lamp in your 97 ?
1.1. Raoul correted me from having a member tear apart his '98 to replace the bulb ( thought it was the same as my 2001 ), and Raoul said his '99 did not have one either.
1.2. Check your owners manual starting on page 8, no note of a cruise control lamp on the cluster.

2. The Airbag lamp flashing, what is the code it is flashing ?
2.1. Should be a 2 digit number, I want to say long flash for the first number, then short flashes for the second number ( maybe the other way around ?? ).
2.2. The airbag code, will point to the direction of the failure it is having.

There is no interaction between the cruise and the airbag systems. The dealer couldn't have screwed it up even if they tried to...

Coincidence.

What's the airbag flash code? Bet someone just switched off the passenger airbag with the key and the light started flashing (feeling psychic this morning)....

I did not have much luck here for airbag 27 ( might not have done a very good search ).

When I took a look at the "other" site I got :

http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.c...32-album-39199

This linked to :
http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic72315.htm

I don't know how pertainant this is to you, maybe hang out and wait for the other Steve to show up, and offer some input, might be in order.

"Ever since you..." I hear this at least two or three times a week, and it gets old. The latest one I heard last week was "Ever since you replaced my starter, my cruise control don't work." Um, okay. Stuff happens.

Anyways, 27 is the PAD switch.

That sure looks like a good place to start and I can handle the solder job, I suppose the tough part might be getting at it. The light for the airbag on the switch when off if burned out does not lite up, thus causing the error? The lady who owns it has an appointment with the Ford dealer to check it out Friday, but they are going to charge $$$ of course to possibly say the same thing and much more $$$ to fix.She originaly thought it had something to do with the cruise recall,,and the cruise light not working suddenly. The dealer said if it is not their fault she pays for test . Is it safe to drive like it is until we fix this if this is the problem ? She is bringing the truck to work tommorrow and I will check some of the things You guys replied with out. Luckily I have internet at work if I get stumped again !''

Thanks again

DAMN! I am psychic!!!

LFC 27 means the light bulb in the PAD switch assy is burned out.

Radio Shack, 2 bucks or less, a little time, and a soldering iron.

Advanced SEARCH keywords "LFC 27 Radio Shack" and my screenname.

Thanks for the diagnosis I am going to try the solder job bulb replacement and see if it fixes the problem, will let you know how it turns out. Another question though...Does the radio bezel pop off or are ther hidden screws?

Thanks again.

By radio bezel, you are talking about the part that is inclusive of the vents, et all.

Use the directions for the VSM Pro-Fit mount to get the bezel off :

http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/Adobe/LC-70-98.pdf

Step #1 for the install gives a good description on how to take it off.

I used plastic interior tools to remove mine when I installed the VSM in my 2001, which made it a bit easier.
The putty knife wraped in a rag works some times, but I have found it can poke through the rag, and scratch the interior piece ( thus why years ago, I bought interior tools ).

If you have never had it off, it could be a bit tough to get it off the first time, after that not too bad.

Good luck

Post cruise/airbag

Similar to what happen to me in March, no horn, no cruise control, and flashing airbag light. Dealership said it was the clockspring. A big round piece of plastic that controls the airbag deployment, and controls on the streering wheel. It cost about $45-150, and about 30 minutes to replace. Good luck.

Did the solder job putting in lite and the error went away !!!!! The only thing that bothered me was the radio shack bulbs say they have a average life of 15 hrs, so I had her keep the passenger air back on to save bulb life, while I research for a different bulb. Now I might tackle the cruise light indicator, and my son-in-laws door ajar light !

$3 fix amazing ! You people know your stuff !
PS Quintin ,,,Did not mean to upset you ,You were right it was just one of those coincidences

Thanks from me and the owner.

isn't this site great.

people do think a problem was caused when a dealer fixed another, if they think this, well thats ok and the dealer should explain the two things are totally different. its when a customer tries to get something for free, thats plain wrong.

i work on equipment and we take pic of all damages to cover ourselves.
