location OBD-II data connector F150 5.4L EFI

Hey out there,
I'm much in debt to you all for the reads so far.Have been attempting to cure a missing problem (after warm-up)which set off the CE. Replaced a bad PCV and the fuel filter. After reading everyone's troubleshooting it sounds like I may have a bad coil on plug. There is an Autozone about 5 miles from me and I would like to know where the ODB-II data connector is located on the vehicle before I go down there.
I don't have a manual and my searches haven't turned up anything yet.
Much thanks!

2001 f150 5.4L 112,000 mi.

If you do a search for owners manual, you should turn up at leat 2 sites to downlaod the Pdf from.

Here is one of them :
https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp

As for the location of the ODB-II connector, you can see it just under the dash in this picture, just above the gas pedal :

It is the sideways D shaped item, that shows 7 silver pins on it ( 4 on the top, 3 on the bottom ).

Remember to get the actual code number from AutoZone, not their take on what needs to be replaced. They will take a code number, and give the generic answer, which may or may not be the correct resoultion for the problem. If you get the P0xxx or P1xxx number from them, you can search here for some trouble shooting help, or post a new thread on the number if you don't find anything.

Good news is: the scanner worked well and it read my vehicles input. My hats off to Autozone for saving me the $80 that Big O would have charged for the same thing.
Bad news is:Code read was P0308 missfire- and my rookie interpretation of that is the dreaded #8 cylinder. I plan to change out that spark plug and coil over plug first. If the problem is gone I will change out the rest of the plugs and clear the memory to remove the CE light.
Thanks loads for the pictures etc. I don't know that I will ever get a manual now!

May or may not be the plug or COP.

From the Ford service CD :
DTC
P0301 through P0310 - Misfire detection Monitor.
Description
The misfire detection monitor is designed to monitor engine misfire and indentify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occured. Misfire is defined as lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression or any other cause.
Possible Causes
- Ignition System
- Fuel injectors
- Running out of fuel
- EVAP conister purge valve
- Fueld pressure
- Evaporative emission system
- Base Engine
[Diagnositic Aides[/b]
The Mil will blink once per second when a misfire is detected severe enough to cause catalyst damage. If the MIL is on steady state, due to a misfiure, this will indicate the threshold for emissions was exceeded and cause the vehicle to fail an inspection and maintenance tailpipe test.

I did not try a search on P030* to see what others have found to be the problem, maybe a check there, prior to changing a plug and COP for the heck of it ( unless you have not put plugs in it at all in the 112K miles, then it might be a dead give away ).

#8 is the notorious one that has a leaky heater hose right above it. Replacing the coil pack and a good ol' fashioned hose clamp on the hose usually takes care of it.

isn't #4 below the heater hose?

anyway swap #8 COP with, say #2 and clear the code. then get the codes read again when the CEL comes on and see if it moved with the COP. this may save you $50 if the Cop is still ok
