"Theft" light ??

My Theft light seems to be on any time my truck is off(2003 screw). Is this a passive alarm. If so I may get a break on my insurance.
I have tried to set it off with it locked with the key fob and when I man. lock the doors but nothing happens. If it's not a passive alarm what is it? And how do I get it to work?

It identifies the vehicle as one that has chip-in-key technology to anyone who happens to look through the window.

I believe the 'theft light' first appeared in the F150 in 1999, the first year of the 'big headed key'.

If you have the "big headed key", you have the PATS system which should qualify for an insurance discount.

Yes, I think I get a U$5.50 discount every 6 months with the full factory alarm. It was U$3.50 with just the PATS.
Bwahahah.

Now I'm curious the chip in the key thing means what exactly? I would guess and say it prevents you from picking the ignition am I close?

The you don't have PATS, you just have the system that doesn't disable the engine.

The PATS system with the chipped key will disable the engine via the computer when the key is away from the ignition switch.

I thought ( take that with a grain of salt ) that PATS started in '99 with the digital odometer ( when the HEC was installed behind the gauges ).

The Theft light on the dash is explained in the '98 owners manual on page 40. It is the old style alarm, that if someone opens the locked door without using the key or RKE, the parking lamps flash and the horn sounds.

From the '98 owner's manual on page 40 :
PERIMETER ALARM SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
Arming the system When armed, this system will help protect your vehicle from unauthorized entry. When unauthorized entry occurs, the system will flash the parking lamps and the theft indicator lamp, and chirp the horn.
The system is ready to arm whenever the ignition is turned OFF. Any of the following actions will prearm the alarm system: ( goes on to list the methods )

It does note, if equipped, so this maybe only on specific trim levels, or a purchased option ??

I had a 97' XLT and a still have a 98' Lariat Built in aug 98' (I wanted the 98 instad of a 99 beacuse i liked the front end better at the time, and i got 0% financing too ,,LOL), on boath of these trucks they had the factory keyless with the alarm theft light option, in 99' they came out with the digital odometer overhead console, the CD changer was moved to the center console fron the rear panel behined the driver, a different front end, supercabs were 4 doors instead of three and I guess the PATS sytem also
