Can anyone gimme the scoop on these? Good bad, etc?

 

they are awsome, best battery i have ever owned, i have had both the red top and yellow top,

 

red top is a normal gel battery and yellow is a deep cycle. they are about the best batteries out there.

 

I have the yellow top. I had a really good interstate battery, but with all the crap I have added, it would run down fast. I got that deep cycle yellow top and no problems. I have my efans setup to run until the temp drops below 185 so they come on and off for a few minutes, then the autolamp stays on for like 3 or 4 minutes, and all the other stuff too!

 

Hello, I have the red top and I want to go with the highest capacity yellow top that optima makes. Any ideas or part numbers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

I just installed my red top in my truck yesterday... It didnt fit like a glove though.. It was smaller in size than the normal battery. But I just had to jam something between the battery and the fender and it fits fine now...

 

dont have em in my truck, but run 6 in the boat and swear by them

 

Optima makes an adaptor which will also clamp down the battery.

 

OK, well I guess Im the exception, but I dont see what all the fuss is about. I mean, if I needed a sealed battery, or had a strange mounting situation then I think its great. If I needed a deep cycle thats great too... But I have been buying 7 year warranty, best they make auto zone batteries. I have watched 3 friends replace yellow tops all bought after I got this battery (3 total in 3 cars) and Ive replaced one of them, free under warranty. All of my friends were out of the warranty on the Optimas..... Thats all I know. Not saying they are bad, but my DuraLast gold is rated higher cold cranking amps and cost like $70.

 

This is true. I haven't felt like shelling out $170 for an Optima so am still running on the stock battery. I beat the crap out of it from a 2000W amp, ran it down to zilch juice several times, and it's still ticking. I have to admit I'm waiting impatiently for it to crap out so I can get an Optima.

 

My thoughts exactly. First off, I got 150K miles out of my original factory battery which is not too shabby. Heard many good things about the Optimas, but why pay so much?? I went to Sam's and got their best battery for the F150 which had 1000 cranking amps and paid right at $50 for it and it has worked great - I have run a stereo, two amps and a sub on it for a couple of hours without running it down. Think about it, I could buy 3 of them for the same price as one Optima.

 

Well one of my friends was reading this post with me and he was one of the guys with an optima that went bad. He insisted I inform you all that his was on a trickle charger in his show car and was barely a year old and took a dump. He wasnt happy.

 

Well, its a little different for me. I get them at cost!

 

I decided to replace my OEM Motorcraft battery with a Red Top Optima 34/78. I picked it up at Sam's Club for $101.00 this afternoon, and on the top of the battery was a red plastic housing with 3 adapters on the underside. It was the last one so I grabbed it. It looks like Optima started including them as of Jan. 2006.

I was going to get a yellow top 34/78 for $135 but it only has a 2 year warranty compared to the 6 year on the red top.

 

I have had a couple and will have some more. If you have a regular truck with a couple of simple not elec. heavy mods and there is nothing wrong with your battery I see no need to run out and buy an Optima your stock is fine. Autozone batteries on a truck used for a DD with no super elec mods are fine if you replace the stocker for whatever reason.

Now once I have my Winch, Off Road lights, Electric fans, and sound system I am going to upgrade because I have had such good luck with the Optima for supporting these type of mods etc.

Optima's are awsome if you need one they aren't for everyone and I think that is the only reason not to buy one is you simply don't need it.
