Best bulbs for replacing headlights?
I wanted to know what are the best bulbs out there to replace the stock ones from an 01... without going for the HIDs. There's a lot on cheap aftemarket stuff on eBay, but I'm not sure what works best for F150s. I've looked throught these forums but couldn't find what I need. Help?
Most members prefer the Sylvania Silverstars. While these bulbs are great, I personally prefer the Cool Blue bulbs (also by Sylvania if I'm correct) which can be found at your local Wal-mart right next to the Silverstars. The light output is just as great if not better with a lower price per bulb. Of course, you can't beat HIDs.
I thought that might be the case... I bought a pair at walmart last night. I considered the lower priced bulbs, but they're supposed to have a blue tint right? I don't like that look much...
The name Cool Blue is somewhat misleading. There's no blue output that you see from the ricer bulbs. I think the name is just a marketing thing. I don't know where Cool Blues are manufactured nowadays but mine had Made in Germany on them. I still keep the set from before the HID conversion.
Apperantly "BLUE" bulbs are not legal so cool blue bulbs are the same as a regular light bulb that emitts yellow light, the silverstars are just as bad they are a waste of money. Look on ebay and look for the higher wattage bulbs those tend to have clear white light but with a blue tone on the headlight/fog light.
I bought from summitracing, the high power blue halogen. They are 80/100 (yes I know thats over the limit, but in 8 years of using them I have never once been pulled over or cited for them) and I had to add a high power harness to keep them from melting the harness, but the light output is twice that of the stock bulb. Mine gives off the colorful look, blue/purple/yellow, but its so much better than that dull orange stock light. Also, they have a conversion kit on ebay that comes from japan I think, thats $280 for HID. I am seriously considering swapping to that.

Hey gang,
Just found this forum, looking forward to some posting!
I have a '05 F150, and I am looking to replace my halogen lights with an HID system. I found a great deal at Vision Bulbs (www.visionbulbs.com) but I have no idea as to what type of bulbs size I have?
Can anyone help?
I need to know the size of the low beam and my fog lights. I am planning to replace both.
Also, what color do you think I should get? 6000K? They have 5 colors to choose from, so I'm really not sure.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

That look like a good deal($269), depending on shipping. There is a seller on ebay that has them for $280 shipped. I believe you have the 9007 bulb, but don't quote me until someone else verifies it

The $269 includes free express shipping. I am definitely buying them, as the company has been around for a while, and a couple of my friends have purchased from them and are very happy.
I just need to know what bulbs are required for my 2005 F150. I want to replace the low beams and my fog lights.

Beware of simple HID conversion kits that only include bulbs and wiring. Most of these kits are not very well designed and will only end up "looking cool and blinding oncoming drivers." Oh yea, and they really don't put light where you want it either. The only good retrofit system that I ever saw was the former Sylvania Xenarc kit that was shipped as en entire system with bulbs, wiring, lenses and housings - all designed as a system. As far as I know, there's really nothing available for our newer ('04-'06) truck headlights other than a Sylvania Extravision headlight bulb and Silverstar fogs. I highly recommend the 9005 foglight trick though.
Suga,
Beware of dirt cheap kits that are sold on some websites and Ebay, the ballast(s) will fail within a year. Considering it's the most expensive component in the kit buying a single replacement ballast will most likely cost you almost as much as the kit itself. Not to mention you have to remove the ballast from wherever tight place you placed it to install the new one.
Whichever kit you choose I would recommend one that uses Hella ballasts. I normally do not publicly endorse any sites but do recommend proxenon.com or hidplanet.com. Proxenon's kit uses Hella ballast and their posted prices are very negotiable. (Just call them and say you don't want to pay xxx price) Hidplanet has great kits at reasonable prices as well.
I'd recommend the 5K bulbs as the light output is not as great as the 4300 but the "white" is more pure. 4300 has the greatest output but has a slight yellow tint. 8K and above isn't legal and definitely has a purple tint.
