service engine soon light

My service engine soon light is always on and i don't know what is the problem.

Has anybody had the same problem before, and if you did what was the problem?

My headlights, panel lights and instrument lighting flutters in intensity.

Any suggestion?

Have you thought of having the code/s read out to see what the cause of the lite is, first? Good place to begin.
You may have a seperate problem with the dash lites.

ses

I've got to agree with Xibbumbero......

I rebuilt my engine and put all new sensors on. I had a problem with it running rich which in turn carboned up the O2 sensor. I put in a can of Lucas octane boost (so the claim goes), but it did clean it off, and now ses light is off. This is all just a theory of mine.

The only way to know is to get the codes read. You'll just be guessing else. Do you know how many things can trigger a CEL.

did you go mudding anytime before this and not wash the top of your engine and even more important but under it? just about everytime i go muddin especially if its in some puddles and what not my light comes on and will not go off till i pressure wash my engine from the top to bottom. and even after that it takes about a mile or so of driving till it goes off. if you havent been muddin then i would say just get it hooked up and check the diagnostics.

Believe it or not, check your gas cap. If it isn't on properly, or not sealed properly, the fuel tank pressure may be out of wonk and that will cause the check engine light to come on. Also, if you leave your truck running while fueling, the light will come on and stay on until you remove the + wire from the battery.

same happened to me. but in my case, it stayed on until the mechanic cleared the codes.

S_E_Light

Well I found a likely candidate to replace my F150XLT 4x4 that went up in flames. It's 99 XLT but it's got a few more goodies on it....it a 5.4L Triton instead of the 4.6L I had; and it's got barely any miles on it...for a '99 anyways.

It got a few electrical gremlins that might be an easy fix, but then again....

1/ the Service Engine light is on the whole time I test-drove the thing.

2/ Airbag light flashes 3 times and then goes off. Does this all the time. I know it's flashing a code, but don't know what it was.

3/ The ABS light came on after I applies the brake in the dealer parking lot. I felt the system activate and the truck stopped, and the ABS light came on. Stayed on (solid) until I turned the truck off. Restarting the truck cleared the light, but it came on again....

I would like to think that these are easy fix items, and really hope that they aer because this was a babied truck, and I'm looking forward to making a deal on it tommorrow or Wednesday.

Any thoughts on these problems?

Steve

Take some advice and tell the dealer to fix the truck before you buy it.

Gremlins

That's pretty much how I left it. I was just hoping to get some likely fixes I could gently suggest he investigate....That's for the reassurance though.

Or you could beat him up on pricing by suggesting a worst-case cost to repair for each of the faults listed. Be creative.

However, you'd assume all liability for any repairs......

I would only suggest this path for someone who is very comfortable performing their own repairs.

#1, you cannot tell what the problem is until the codes are outputted.
This can be anything from a bad cat convertor assembly at many hundreds of dollars cost, to a more simple low cost problem.
#2 What you are seeing is a code 33. This is the passenger side air bag circuit open.
#3 ABS can be a sensor.
Overall I would wonder why the dealer with his shop doesnot want to fix the problems unless they don't know how.
Are you any better at it, have tools and service info etc?
Good luck.
