Turn signal in side mirror

My turn signal in my side mirror quit working and I've been told that the only way to fix this is to replace the whole mirror. Is this true? Thanks.

I finally located the info on how to fix the light. It is a replaceable bulb but my bulb wasn't burnt out it wiggled loose and works fine. I'm very dissapointed in the Ford dealer for trying to sell me a $148 dollar mirror when it took 30 seconds and a butter knife to get the bulb out.

that's the bitter part of getting something fixed on a dealership. they will lure you to buy parts you really don't need.

Somewhere I had found a picture but am unable to locate it now. If I get time I'll take a pic of my own and post it. If you tilt the mirror forward all the way it will allow access behind it. If you look inside (you may need a flashlight) you will see two plastic clips that hold the plastic cover on the front. You can use a table knife or a flat screw driver to lift the clips to clear the retainer and then the cover will pull towards the front of the truck at the top. Once the top is loose lift up and the cover will come off allowing access to the bulb. Be careful with the clips as they are plastic and could break.

Any ideas on where to get the replacement bulb? My bulb is actually cracked and I haven't found a replacement anywhere.

Assuming you don't have the Muth mirrors with the lights built into the glass, the light is just a bulb mounted in the mirror cover. Pics are in teh gallery linked in my signature under 'Mirror Cover How-To.'

Thanks, but what I am looking for is somewhere to purchase the bulb. The assembly is different that your mirrors. These have an orange/yellow light containing 4 or 5 bulbs inside and is located at the bottom of the mirror assembly. My problem is the light won't stay in the mirror because the snaps on the light have broken off. I pulled the light out and got the part number off of it but I can't locate it on any parts websites. The light itself is about 1/2" tall and 3" long.

Are the 04 mirrors a bulb or a row of LEDs like the 06 ?

I was addressing the original question, and the comment about the pictures. Yes, the '04 is different. I don't know of anyplace to find it, except maybe a salvage yard.

Can you elaborate on what year and style mirror we are talking about?
My 04 has what looks like LEDs on the outer edge of the plastic cover plate. I can't see that being just one bulb.
I was always curious about the arrow on the mirrored surface, I could see that being just a bulb shining through the glass / mirror surface.

Edit
I see now that it is not an LED set up, but a single bulb.
Thanks for the pics GIJoe Cam
Nice info. Thanks

I was asking for CJ-F150's question on the bulb.

The only pictures of a new body style '04 ( not the heritage ) are the same as the '06 mirrors, a row of LEDs.

I just replaced my mirror head, someone took out the drivers side on Foster Ave in Chicago, while it was parked on the street.
The Row of yellow lights in the bottom on my '06 were LEDs. You can try your dealer, or tak ethe P./N and email it to one of the big 3 onlines, they will look it up, and get back to you in short order. All 3 have been real good about looking up P/Ns for me in the past to post here, and for stuff I have bought.

If you have a '04 F-150 Heritage version :
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=235899

This is the bulb in the edge of the glamor cap like Joe is talking about.

FYI : The arrow in the mirror from Muth is a row of LEDs.

The first post in the thread was for replacement of the 906/921 bulb, but that was back in 2005, I think he might have gotten it done by now

SSCULLY,

The picture you posted is how my mirror looks. There are several bulbs, but they are all enclosed in a single light that plugs in and then snaps into place. Who are the big 3 online?

The ones I use :

www.oemfordparts.com
www.fordpartsonline.com
www.fastpartsnetwork.com

If you check the p/n you have against the online database ( the trademotion system at each ) you might find it straight away.

If not, send them an email for an order question, and give them the P/N, they might be able to find it for you.
