Question New to board...Remote Keyless Entry Question

Hello,

I am new to this board so I apologize if this question has been asked before. I just bought a 97 f150 lariat and I'm trying to figure out if it has remote keyless entry. I didn't get any remotes with the truck.

Thanks for your help!

Keyless...

Do you have a "theft" light? If you don;t know, try this.

Insert key and turn on and back to off eight times in a row. Don't start the truck, just to the 'on' poisition and back to off.

After the number eight, AND IF you have keyless capability, your power door locks should lock/unlike a time or two by themselves (this is programming mode). If they don't, you don't have keyless. Once done, let the turck sit for 30 seconds and it will exit programming mode and you can start the truck.

If they do, get two remotes off e-bay, do the same thing, hit one button on each remote, and then turn the key on/off one more time... that's it!

Thanks

Thank you, I went out and did the on off thingy and yep it ran through the door lock cycle and a "theft" light came on. I guess I better buy those remotes. Thanks again!

Be very sure you get the right ones. I just got a Stick on keypad on e-bay. Nice little product, but it won't work on non factory keyless... You have factory keyless, but keep in mind there are a lot of different fobs. You might call the dealer and ask for the part number of the replacement for your truck, then look for that on e-bay.

Remote Choice

Almost any three button Ford remote will work. One unlock, one lock, and one panic. The Freestar/Windstar, F150, etc. all use the same remotes. The FCC ID and back numbers will be different, but almost any will work and they all program the same way. I have ones for a Mustang, Windstar, and Explorer from E-Bay and they all work great.

For example, just search for "F150 Remote" on e-bay and look at your CHEAP choices. Just make sure that the remotes look like this:

Glad to hear that the test provided the results that you had hoped for.

Add remote system

I was reading through here and tried it on my 97 F150 and nothing happened. So I am guessing that I do not have the system, is it possible to add it on?

Kind of... it will require new equipment under the dash. It would proably be cheaper to have an aftermarket installed if you don't have factory keyless.

Remote start and locks was $130 installed at HHgreg. It is a Code Alarm setup, and mine works great.

Does the presence of the "theft" light mean that it has the keyless entry installed?
