Brake Light in Trailer Hitch Question.
Brake Light in Trailer Hitch Question.
I bought one of those block-offs for the tow hitch where the receiver would slide in. It is backlighted and glows red and says FORD when you step on the brake. It plugs into the flat 4 connector. Right now the way its wired is to the right hand brake/turn circuit. So when I stop it comes on or when I signal right it blinks. But...being only wired to the right brake/ turn circuit it does not blink when I turn left.
Can someone please tell me how to wire this so it blinks when signalling right or left, not just to the right?
I thought about hooking into the parklights circuit but I would have to have my lights on and it wouldnt come on with my brakes or signals.
Awesome site by the way, just bought my 04 so I will be here reading as much and as often as I can.
Thanks for any ideas you may have.

In my limited experience I was never able to wire the light properly.
I finally found one at Wal-Mart that had a logic circuit wired in that would only activite the light with the brake lights.

I don't think it should blink at all with the Signal Lights, just like the 3rd brake light does not blink. If you jumper yout wiring so that the hitch light blinks with both turn signals, the power from one signal light with always run through the hitch light to the other side so your left and right signal lights will both blink no matter witch side your turning.

I believe it blinks because it is connected to the right hand stop/turn on the F150. It has no choice but to blink when turnig right but turning left it only receives the constant on power from the brake light on the right side. I would like it to either blink when turning right or left OR come on solid with the brake lights.
Thanks triumphman I'm emailing you now.

WesternStar301,
got your email and have asked you a question there.
and dpostman is right, thats exactly how it would work if you just tied the r/l sides together.
the way we are going to do it, is just the way you what it to work Jason.

Look up under the rear bumper near the wiring harness and look for the single green wire that's kind of hanging around on it's own. This wire will feed any third brake light (and not let them blink with the left/right blinkers). Ford put this nice little feature into the wiring harness for folks like us who want to have all the comforts of a 3rd brake light for camper tops and light bars w/o the trouble of dealing with logic circuits.

Cool, thanks. But I still want to try and do the other way for the heck of it. Good to know about the extra wire though.
