Fuel Left when Low Fuel Light On?

On my way home today in my 01 SCrew the Low Fuel Light came on. When I filled up, I put a little over 22 gallons in my tank. Does anyone know how much fuel is left in the tank when the fuel light comes on? The tank is 25 gallons. Thanks in advance.

Low Fuel Light

The "rule of thumb" is aprox. 3 gal.! Might not want to take any chances though. That is what I have seen on my S'crew.

Thanks....

I drove about 20 miles on the Low Fuel Light. Was getting worried. With my other vehicle (A 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100), 20 miles on reserve is pushing it on a good day. Nice to know there is a little more warning to the F-150s.

I ran mine dry not paying attention. Put 23.2 Gal in it. I would say the useable fuel is prob a hair over 24. ( but not much)

There are 4 galons left when the fuel light comes on. It is unuseable because the gas cools and lubricates the fuel pump so you risk burning it out.

I can tell you from much experience that you have a 25 gallon tank on your truck, and it will hold about 25.2 when it is dead empty (the hose holds a little extra of course). I have a 2000 f150, 5.4L, and I try not to push more than 35 miles when the light comes on, but you will want to be more careful if you are unsure of your truck. On the highway I will push it a little further, but it isnt a good idea.

My truck is a 5.4 long bed with a 30 gallon tank. When the light comes on, I've driven it many times between 50 and 60 miles while being hard on it in the city. It's freaky; the gauge stops going down after about 30 miles or so.

Call me crazy or whatever but I think its a good idea not to let you fuell situation get that low anyways. Think about how much vapor is in your tank and what if you get hit dead on where the tank is located. But thats why i always refill around a 1/4 of a tank.
-Just a thought-
