Viper/Python alarm system question
Viper/Python alarm system question
Anybody have the Viper or Python alarm system hooked up to their Ford? I have a 2001 F-150 and the Ford dealership I'm having this installed at is having "difficulties" such as rough idling. When I brought the truck in, there was definitely no rough idling going on.
I was told these alarms were among the very best. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Yes, its the remote start Python system.
I just heard from the dealership and they told me it was the #8 coil causing the rough idling. They said this had nothing to do with the alarm??? Is this what you were suggesting might be the problem? If so, should I be good to go now that they've replaced the coil?
Thanks for your help...looks like you may have been exactly right.

Well, in the end, its all good, but here's everything that happened (if you have a minute or two to read). When I bought the truck two weeks ago, I was only given one key (truck is used...2001). These alarms have to have 2 keys programmed into them in order to work though. The system will allow you to start and run the vehicle for about 5 minutes, but after that, it will shut the engine down. They never told me this when I came to pick it up, so I drove it off the lot and it shut down on me right in the middle of rush hour traffic on 495 (DC beltway). I was furious. Turns out, the service mmgr who was handling my ticket was supposed to inform me that I needed a new key, but he left work early to go to the hospital that afternoon (heart problems I think). So while I was furious, when the manager told me my service guy went to the hospital, it was difficult for me to really get angry at them. Anyway, Ford paid for my towing, had a free key cut and programmed for me that night (around 9:00 pm), gave me a free rental car and fixed the coil the next day. It was an inconvenience, but at least I got a free key out of it all (would have cost me $100-$200 bucks), something I had already determined I should get since having only 1 key probably isn't the best idea.
Sorry for the long explanation. I think I'm good to go now!
Thanks.

Where did you have your alarm installed? I'm looking to get a Viper installed and want to have it done correctly.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay to have the alarm installed?
Thanks.

I bought it from the Ford dealer at the same time I bought my truck, for $600. However, I got to know the installer pretty well and he said he'd cut a deal to anybody I might refer to him. He's a real good guy..one of only a handful of "master" installers in the country. He highly recommends the Viper or Python (same system, different name) alarm systems. Anyway, his name is Henry but I don't have his card with me at the moment, so I don't have his number. I'll get it for you this afternoon.
Having the remote start and the pager style key pad w/ LCD display to show you where your system had been activated, and at the long range capability it has (I get a signal from my truck even when parked in an underground garage when I'm 4-5 floors up) is awesome. I highly recommend it...its worth the money.

Dave,
The company is H&T Sound Dynamics, the Master Installer is Henry Avendano, and his number is 703-930-9808. Tell him you were referred by Adam, the guy with the Ford F-150 from Tysons Ford. Hopefully he'll give you some kind of a discount. Regardless, he knows his stuff and you can rest assured your system was installed properly.
