Question Battery Light

Hello,

I have a 99' F150 5.4L V8. 72,000 miles. I have noticed the battery light staying on recently. I took the altenator out and it was tested and found to be shortening out the test system, so I replaced the altenator and the 4 year old battery.

After driving about 60 miles now, the light is STILL ON and I notice just a little difference in the idle speed; it wants to idle a little faster.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

The idle could be that the truck learned a new setup from when you had the battery out. I wonder if you have damage to the charging circuit. If the alt. shorted the test equipment did it damage something in the truck?? do you also have a gauge??

Thanks Pestco,

I don't have a gauge. I suppose there could be damage in the charging system. The intrument panels voltage gauge seems to maintain full charge as of yet.

Pestco1 thanks again for your help.

You are correct in that the altenator has affected something else. Apparently, a 20 amp fuse was blown somewhere along the way maintaining the glow of the battery light. I am not certain if it blew before or after the installation of the alt. and battery but that was the problem.
