I have the same problem with mine. The local Ford service dept. just called me with the news. $410+ for both sides. I'm only doing the passenger side today at 1/2 that. The driver side has only failed a couple times but the passenger side never works.
Good luck!!
Good luck!!
$410 WTF. You can do it yourself for less than $100 in quality parts. It's just removing the door panels that's a pain the 1st time. Replacing the actuators actually is pretty fun, you get to see how an actuator works, pretty interesting.
After he gave me the quote of $410+ I asked him how much would it cost me just to come back and pick it up. $89.00. WTF is right! So I told him just to do the one side. $221.56 for the passenger side only. I looked into doing it myself but really didn't want to pull the door panels off. I'm not sure how to do it even after I get the panel off. Can anyone explain how it is done? I may do the drivers side myself. It seems to be working, last time I locked it up.
Get a Chilton's (sold on this site or bookstores) for ~$20, it has detailed instructions on the locations of screws to remove (any) panel, then go from there.. Best 20 bucks I've ever spent IMHO.

Keith, did you get the manual and take the door panel off yet? I need to do the same thing. I bought a haynes manual yesterday for $10 at GI Joes. Dont know how it compares to chilton.
Also, how do you like your MAC cold air intake and filter? I just ordered one for the wifes Explorer. I was under the hood one day and noticed the stock air box was broken. I didnt even check to see what it would cost to get another stock airbox.

Lean & Cut, is ford the only place to get the actuaters or does someone make better aftermarket ones. Even $89 seems a bit high for another little piece of crap actuater. Is it common for these to quit working?
krklnmn, I didn't order the book yet. My driver's side is still working fine (If it ain't broke, don't fix it!). I'm really not looking forward in getting into that, but when the time comes I'll have to do it. The final bill for the passenger side was $56 for the actucter and $169 labor!! Let me know how it goes if/when you replace yours! The Mac Cool Air System is working great. That was one of my first mods.
krklnmn,
You can get an actuator pretty much any place online or off, no need for genuine Ford product here. I think Best Buy even has some.
I have 3 rules I go by:
1. Look good
2. Go fast
3.
Tires, rims, shocks, intake, exhaust.. sure. Actuator.. no.
My actuator is a no brand one which is probably made in China or something LOL but since it's inside the door it doesn't have to:
1. Look good
2. Go fast
So.. it's there and has worked fine for the past 2 years. Cool by me. If you think about it, it doesn't take that much power to move that little locking lever.

Live and learn! I'll not let Ford replace it again! I would have much rather spent that $225 on something else!! I couldn't let them charge me $89 to tell me it was broke, I knew that going in! That's why I let them fix the one side.
