Lights on with Remote Lock or Unlock? Can it be Done?

Rented an Envoy this past week. One feature that was obviously standard (as the one I had was stripped) was that the lights would kick on if you used the remote to unlock. EXCELLENT feature...

In short, at night, while approaching the vehicle, you could press the unlock button on the remote, the lights, reversing lights, and interior domes would all kick on making the area fully illuminated. A great safety feature if you ask me...

Think that there's any way to pull this off on one of ours?

RP,

No and yes. FoMoCo sells an Underbody Lighting Kit that wires into the dome light. This lights the area immediately around the cab on the ground with the dome light that already comes on with the remote.

You could make this kit yourself (just as easy and CHEAPER) with a relay and a few flood lights. Put a light behind and flooding the areas near the running boards, then mount one up in the rear quaterpanel to illumiate the rear sides.

I cannot think of a way, however, to make the backup and headlamps come on. The relay-controlled underbody lighting attached to the dome light circuit seems easiest. Just know that they will all come on if you turn on the interior lights in your truck at a traffic light or something, so don't mount them to possibly blind other drivers. (It would also be VERY easy to put an inturrupt switch in the relay switch line that would let you turn the underbody lighting off at any time.)

just use a relay the same way you would the underbody lights but hook it up to the backup lights you would just have to tap into the backup lights under the rear bumper or find it in the cab.

30 =12v (Batt)
87 =backup light and headlights
86=wire from remote entery that trigers the dome light
85=ground
the box for the remote entery is under the dash on the drivers side up near the E brake if you use a volt meter you should find the wire easy take ya an hour tops to wire it up.

Hrrm....

I'm not sure if I want to tackle this one either... doesn't sound incredibly involved but, I think I'll stick with stock in this instance.

I just really liked the fact that you could click the unlock button on that envoy and the lights would come on, illuminating your walk up to the truck. Nice feature... wish Ford had it.

Thumbs up

I saw an Envoy recently and thought it was cool, too. Would be pretty handy to have and not real difficult to do.

I've got remote start and autolamps on mine, so when/if I want to light up my truck as I'm approaching I can just start it... This comes in real handy when I'm outside my truck, and want to turn the headlights on for any reason...

RP,

This feature came standard with my truck when i picked it up off the lot. When i got my Viper 550 ESP installed, i told the installer that it had to work the same way, when i hit unlock, all the lights go on, the running board lights, the dome light, and the bed light. Maybe it was a new feature for 2002, i dont know.

I thought it's standard

Hi,
I thought the feature is standard. I have 97 SC with factory *silent* alarm system. When I press Unlock on Ford standard remote interior light comes up... it's the same as when you open up a door...
I bought the truck used though so maybe previous owner did that but again... You might want to talk to a dealer or something...
Hope that helps,
Alex.
