keyless entry
keyless entry
can someone help me? I have a 99 f150 XLT, and i was wondering how can i find out if it has keyless entry. i bought the truck used about 6 months age and it didnt come with key fobbs. is it something extra to get added on or can i just go and buy fobbs and then program them? thanks
I bought my 00 F150 used and went to the dealer and asked the same question. It took 4 dealers before a lady in customer service finally told me. Something to the extent of:
Put key in ignition, turn to on position six times (do not crank the vehicle neither time), after the sixth time, if your door locks lock, then you have a factory installed keyless entry. If not, then you would be better off to go aftermarket IMO.
Hope this is what you are looking for!
Also, FYI, if you have two PATS keys, already programmed for your truck, you can reprogram all you want, as long as you have more PATS key blanks. Get them cut at any store that does key cutting, then, insert one good key into the ignition for 3 seconds, pull it out, insert the second for 3 seconds, pull it out, then place the "dead" key in the ignition for 3 seconds and pull it out. Then you should have 3 keys to start your truck. This is a great idea, because if you lose one key, you will not have to pay the dealer a small fee of $103 for a new one.

Close but not quite - cycle the key in the ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN the 8th time (you do not have to go all the way to CRANK). If the door locks lock, then unlock then you have factory keyless entry.
I have a 97' XLT with power door locks and the factory alarm system and a plain key (no chip). My doors auto lock when I start driving.
Will this procedure work with my truck. I have been wondering about the remote keyless entry.
If you look at the electrical diagrams for my year of truck, it does not show a seperate system with the alarm (RAP) module that does not have the keyless entry.
It just shows the RAP module or no RAP module.
I take that to mean if you have the RAP then you also have remote keyless entry.
Am I wrong?

Today I tried the ignition on (8 times) and on the third power-on cycle, the door locks cycled from unlock to lock and back to unlock.
To me this means I do have all of the componants for remote keyless entry.
Now I just have to get some transmitters....

I have a 98 f150 XLT nicely equiped 5.4 4x4 offroad exc., since it is nicely equiped i though it should have keyless entry as well. I tried the key trick and nothing. My question is does any one know what package that came in(keyless entry)? thanks

Keyless entry is not standard, It is an option.
Cycling the key will only let you know if you have the necessary components. But just because the locks don't cycle does not necessarily mean that it isn't equipped with keyless entry.
It is possible that the system is faulty.
On most F-150's the keyless module is located on the LH side of the dash. You have to look up in the dash from the floorboard with a light. If you find a white box with a FORD part # and a 5 digit code, then you got keyless entry equipped. Also, if you have a keypad, that 5 digit code is the primary code to unlock the door.
