Talking Autolamps Revisited

I posted this info in the Supercrew Forum, this is the information I gathered over the last week and in the process of modding my 2003 Screw with Autolamp, DRL, and Keypad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALrighty then.....been on and off the phone with Bryan at http://www.fordpartsonline.com (1-800-549-2005) and came up with some things. Talk to Bryan because all the parts are fresh in his head after dealing with me all day.

pw1981, Dennis and SSCULLY.THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!

pw1981
If the dealer is installing the autolamp kit that gives the DRL as an option YOU DO NOT WANT THIS KIT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

The kit (which is what I presume the dealer ordered based on your post) is CRAP... it has a stick on light sensor and there is NO WAY to turn off the lights in the dark. No switch, no nothing. It just sucks.

As SSCULLY posted the link to my original thread... order the parts, and do it yourself. If your dealer is installing the kit, you WILL NOT be happy with it. The stick on sensor and lack of ability to turn it off makes it just awful.

pw1981, You were absolutely dead on!!!

I thought about this and realised that I was never asked what color interior I had. This is major due to the fact that the oval piece on top of the dash has to be replaced and needs one that has the slits and hole for the sensor. And the stock color is Dark Graphite. Mine is charcoal grey. I had the dealership cut me a check and I got my $249.00 back. I owe you all a beer.

So anyone that wants to install autolamp CORRECTLY here you go with Part#'s and current prices

1)Switch(w/fog lights w/autolamp)-- P/N#13A018 $60.02
2)Cover on dash (Oval)--P/N# XL3Z-15046A34-DAA $37.06(specify your color)
3)Light Sensor-- P/N#YL3Z-13A018-AA $28.03

So its $125.11 plus shipping.

THe part Number you DO NOT WANT from the dealership is
F8AZ13B218AA the base number is B218AA The first part adds the DRL. Its crap just like pw1981 said it was. Tape on sensor and you cannot turn off your lights at night :|

If you want to do the Daytime Running lights, where in Texas and I am sure in other states as well,it will lower your insurance

You will also need to order

A resistor --- P/N#14A061 $6.28
and a relay-- P/N# 14N089 $40.74

Also your can add the Key Pad for the door

1)Keypad PN# 14A626 $59.06
2)Door Handle Plate is P/N# 22405...(for biege)..$43.52
and available in every color but mine.....True Blue :|

Gary, the General Sales manager at Grand Prairie Ford and also my neighbor said he would have the guys in the auto body shop paint it for me. He was also had me educate his Aftermarket parts guy that had only been there a month. So the next person that buys and XLT and wants autolamp can have it installed correctly.

So when Bryan calls back I am going to order all this stuff and let you know how it goes......I know...I shouldv'e just bought the Lariat....but I didn't want leather, its to dang hot in Texas.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope this helps anyone considering doing this.

Jeff

Excellent information Savage. This is a wealth of information for someone working on a variety of modifications.

SSCULLY, Dennis, & PW1981 are a wealth of information and a huge asset to our forums. (hehehe, maybe I won't realize that I called them an '***'et). LOL!

Question Hmm

With fog Lights and Auto lamp?

Maybe its in your internet history(cache) or something, I found the switch and its 57.70 for a 2003 model.

HEADLAMP SWITCH, F150-250, w/Fog Lamps, w/Auto Lamps 00-03 $72.13 $57.70
Parts And Prices Are For Estimating Purposes Only.

Are you sure you are looking at the one with Both Fog and Autolamp?

This one is $40 but no Fog Lamp but has Auto Lamp
HEADLAMP SWITCH, F150-250, w/o Fog Lamps, w/Auto Lamps 00-03 $50.69 $40.55
Parts And Prices Are For Estimating Purposes Only.

Sorry, I can't find it now. Just the one withOUT fog lights. But I know when I bought mine they were the same price. I asked them about it on the phone, and no one new why. They were both cheaper then. I was thinking about getting the one WITH fog lights, and adding fog lights, but decided to to go about adding fog lights differently...

I was a little dissappointed when I first contacted them. They told me they couldn't get me anything without part numbers, and told me I should come here (f150online) to find them. They also quoted me about $10-$20 more than what their site was showing. Once that was out of the way they were great to deal with. Shipping was quick, and they didn't argue any about the price discrepancy... just gave me the better price...

The part # listed for the switch is not correct. The correct part # for the light switch, w/o fog lamps, w/autolamps, is:
YL3Z-11654-CAB. The web price is $40.55.

The part # listed for the dash cover above is the correct number for the dash cover and light sensor, in Dark Graphite.

The last part # listed is correct for the amplifier.

Also your can add the Key Pad for the door

1)Keypad PN# 14A626 $59.06
2)Door Handle Plate is P/N# 22405...(for biege)..$43.52
and available in every color but mine.....True Blue :|

The entire keypad part # is YL3Z-14A626-AA.

The door handle plate part # is XL1Z-22405-???. The ??? indicates your color selection. (Mine is BAJ for Oxford White)
No flame intended, just clarification...

I know this is an OLD thread, but I just came across this module while looking at options for a Viper Alarm System. DEI has released a 545T Nite-Lite.

The DEI 545T NITE-LITE System automatically activates headlights and parking lights whenever the vehicle is driven in darkness, and turns them off automatically in daylight. Also can activate lights whenever windshield wipers are used. Includes photocell, relays, and bypass switch.
To see some info about it, here is a decent page... and the price on this is around $50 or so.

Why would you want to activate lights when the wipers are on? Although that would go well with stereo on with remote windows roll-down and 3rd brake light flash when alarm is triggered deal on my Viper alarm.

Because in some places lights are required when it's raining, and some people think it give them more visibility or makes them more visible. I will sometimes turn on my parking lights since I'm in a "highway" colored car, but headlights in the rain are just a blinding mess... Where's RJ...?

Thanx for the sacarsm LeanNCut. And as Closer9 mentioned, some states do require headlights to be on when your wipers are on. California is making it a law very soon, if it hasn't already gone in to affect.

I am not a fan of DRL and would never activate that function, but since I live in CA, I would enable the lights on with wipers... although, I would connect it to my fog lights, not headlights. Hopefully the CHPs wont mind that.

I just did a search for the Autolamp fix and found so many threads. Cant believe that ppl post without doing a search first.

Just wanted to pass on, the cheapest way to get autolamps is to use a Directed (DEI) 545T module. Info regarding it is available here:

Owners Manual - http://www.directeddealers.com/manua...ners_Guide.pdf

Installation Manual - http://www.directeddealers.com/manua...tion_Guide.pdf

And its available right now at Buy.com for $30 w/ free shipping - http://www.buy.com/prod/directed-545...204226631.html
